250,000 tonnes of resins, binders, additives and lacquers - that's how much we process each year in the production of our wood-based materials.💧🪵 This gives us great potential to replace fossil-based raw materials with renewable ones. We have already realised this with OrganicBoard Pure with 100% biogenic binders.🍃 By 2025, we want to expand this and produce 10% of our wood-based materials using a proportion of biogenic binders. Find out all about this goal and product in our sustainability report.📰💚 https://lnkd.in/ddrRQEV7 #makeyourvisionswork #sustainability

Lead Scientist Circular Feedstocks | Systems Innovation | Recycling Technology | Design for Circular Economy | Microplastics
On my way back from the Renewable Materials Conference... great conference, where I had the honor to present the TNO framework to select optimal & sustainable pathways to plastics. It consists of three steps: 1. Assess fit of bio-based polymers with existing specifications (it's all about functionality!) 2. Determine the sustainability & economic feasibility per pathway (CO2 & bio-based drop-in/novel) 3. Determine the merit order and assess impact of various constraints (such as feedstock availability) Our next step with this framework is a whitepaper, to be released later this year (H2-2024). Stay tuned! #2024RMC #TNOSustainable #Recycling #CCU #BioBased #polymers #plastics #circulareconomy #defossilization

In a recent analysis, nine studies on the future of the chemical or plastics industry were evaluated to understand further feedstock needs. Global growth for most scenarios is between 2-3% CAGR – mostly driven by increasing demand in developing countries while industrial countries focus on improving circularity via reuse and recycling. Some studies have a residual share of fossil feedstock (usually linked to Carbon Capture Storage deployment), but researchers believe that the chemical industry will need to defossilize to truly achieve sustainable carbon cycles and reach net zero targets by 2050. #register now for this Plastics NZ #webinar - Understanding #bioplastics with Scion, Nov 26, 12.30pm. Discover bioplastics #innovations and their potential to contribute to a more #sustainable future. This session will offer valuable insights into how bioplastics can support your sustainability goals. Discover the different types of bioplastics, their applications, and their role in reducing environmental impact. Converting currently unutilised woody residues, including slash and other biomass, to biofuel or bioplastics can replace $2.5 billion of imports each year. Scion's work is helping rethink the way we make, use and reuse plastics. https://lnkd.in/gj8TevYH
