As a beginner in the sales journey, I've faced moments when the numbers felt discouraging. Starting from zero, months went by without any sales. Yet, I've come to realize that setbacks are stepping stones, not roadblocks. I'm still trying my best, still a beginner, and it's in these challenges that we find the strength to grow. So, to my fellow beginners facing tough times, remember, your journey is uniquely yours, and every low is a chance for a higher climb. Keep pushing, keep believing – success is often found just beyond our comfort zones. 💪 #salesjourney #keepgoing #persistencepaysoff #growthmindset #chasingdreams #sales #believeinyourself #believeandachieve

My Journey to Solution Selling: A Lesson in Sales "I need a solution sales rep, not a box shifter." That phrase marked a pivotal moment in my sales career and set me on a path to mastering solution selling. It all began when I graduated from university in 2004 and landed a sales role at a promotional gifting company. With experience in B2C roles and a knack for cold calling, I quickly climbed the ranks. However, the allure of IT sales—driven by lucrative compensation—called me to a new challenge. Driven by entrepreneurial ambitions, I started a business with a university colleague. We received investment from the Prince's Trust Foundation and guidance from a seasoned mentor. However, with mounting student debt and depleted savings, we decided to pause the venture. It was a tough but invaluable lesson—our First Attempt In Learning. Eager to return to sales, I quickly secured a role as a Business Development Manager. Nearly two years later, I transitioned into New Business/Field Sales, confident in my understanding of sales processes. My interview with a start-up founder was challenging, yet my personality and preparedness got me through. As I sat in the interview room, the founder asked, "Are you a solution sales rep or just a box shifter?" Confidently, I launched into a pitch about my experience, assuming I understood his definition. But he stopped me, asking, "What do you define as solution selling, Michael?" My previous understanding was selling a combination of products. However, he sought someone who grasped the entire end-to-end process—uncovering leads, converting opportunities, understanding drivers and pain points, and aligning with the buying cycle until closure and beyond. It was a revelation. He wanted a sales rep with a metric-driven approach, treating the role as their own business. This marked the start of my journey into metric-driven selling. Fortunately, I landed the role and dove into mastering questioning techniques and refining my sales process. And you know what? The frameworks and processes I learned then still serve me today. It was the best foundation I could have ever had. 5 Key Learning Points from This Experience: 1. Never Assume: Always seek clarification, even if you think you understand. 2. Own Your Role: Treat your sales role as if you're running your own franchise. 3. Understand Both Processes: Grasping the sales and buying processes is crucial for success. 4. Let Your Personality Shine: Your unique character can set you apart. 5. Invest in Your Brand: Constantly work on your brand and self-image. If you're a revenue leader or founder-led salesperson, I implore you to apply these principles in your process. Have an impactful story that still lives with you to this day? VP of Sales | Fractional Sales & Marketing | Lead Generator Machine | Sales Strategist & Consultant. Need leads and sales? I'm Your Girl!
Leaving a sales training today with a new client thinking to myself… whyyyy do people who have never sold a dang thing in their life insist on selling their product or service? I get it if you’re good at selling and your close rate is on point but if you’re getting inbound leads because people need and WANT what you have but you’re closing under 70% of those leads you need a SALES PERSON. I can assure you, the majority of businesses that close are NOT a lack of business but a lack of SALES knowledge. Food for thought…. Carry on 🤷🏼♀️ #salestraining #entrepreneurmindset #selling #businessownertips
