Week 19 - Understanding Design. Design encompasses the disciplined application of creativity to fulfill specific functions across various fields such as architecture, fashion, furniture, and visual arts. It involves creating something unique and purposeful that serves a defined objective. Designers leverage their mental processes to manage and refine ideas into tangible outcomes. Unlike decoration, which involves visual selection, design is about generating original concepts. It is distinguished from art by its emphasis on functionality; a well-designed product or space should be both aesthetically pleasing and practical. Designers focus on understanding their objectives clearly and presenting their creations effectively to their intended audience, whether through services or physical objects.

✨ Art isn’t just decoration; it’s the soul of a space. ✨ When I design interiors, I believe that every choice should evoke emotion, but it’s the ART that truly breathes life into a room. It turns an empty wall into a story, a functional space into an experience. Art adds layers of meaning, expression, and energy that go beyond aesthetics—it creates a connection. That’s why Sarah Masura’s art has been such a perfect match for my design philosophy. Her unique ‘drip-and-drop’ technique is mesmerizing—each piece is full of movement, emotion, and unexpected beauty. There’s something raw and authentic about her work that instantly transforms a space. It doesn’t just blend in; it commands attention while harmonizing with the rest of the design. It’s as if her paintings have a pulse, adding depth and soul to the interiors. Every drop of paint in Sarah’s work feels intentional, as though it’s been placed there to make you feel—whether it’s calm, curiosity, or even inspiration. Her art completes the spaces I create, turning them into something truly unforgettable. Because in the end, design is not just about how a space looks—it’s about how it makes you feel. And Sarah’s art does just that—leaves an imprint long after you’ve left the room. 🎨💫 #InteriorDesign #ArtInDesign #EmotionInDesign #DripAndDropArt #Creativity

Helping clients to Achieve Optimised Architecture Design for Construction with Data Driven Design approach💻🏢
Ever walk into a beautifully designed room and feel like something's missing? That "something" might just be art! We've always understood that design goes beyond aesthetics at The Design Plexus. It's about crafting spaces that tell a story, inspire, and reflect the individuality of our clients. In our recent project for author Manny Anchan, we designed a vibrant and inspiring workspace that embodied the spirit of his book, "The Happiness Samurai." A custom-commissioned artwork featuring a dynamic samurai mascot became the centerpiece, perfectly capturing the book's themes of perseverance and inner strength. Art is the magic ingredient that transforms a house into a home, an office into an inspiring workspace. Here's why art is essential: Storytelling & Soul: Art reflects your personality and sets the tone. A vibrant abstract piece energizes a room, while a calming landscape evokes tranquility. Focal Point & Balance: Art draws the eye and creates a focal point, anchoring the space. It can also balance out strong colors or furniture arrangements. Cohesive Flow: Art ties a room together by picking up colors or themes from furniture and decor. A pop of red in a painting can echo the color of throw pillows, creating a sense of visual harmony. Conversation Starter: Art sparks conversations! It becomes a talking point, adding personality and a unique touch to your space. So, next time you're designing a space, consider the power of art! It's an investment in your well-being and a reflection of your unique style. #interiordesign #worldartday #artwork

At the beginning of each year, there are always discussions around trends. However, at Pirajean Lees, we feel very strongly that our work should not be swayed by prevailing and sometimes fleeting design trends. Instead, we take a holistic approach to design and start projects by NOT designing. Instead, we prioritise the development of a strong narrative that serves as the foundation for each project. This narrative becomes the canvas upon which we articulate a compelling story through design, giving each project a unique identity. Our inspiration may come from art, fashion, culture or history. By rooting our designs in a strong narrative, rather than focusing on aesthetics, we aim to create spaces that will withstand the test of time. We have a passion for detail, which inspires us to design every element of our projects, from the overall narrative to bespoke furnishings and accessories. We love to use natural materials and rich textures, and celebrate craftsmanship wherever possible. #narrativedesign #designstudio #designapproach #interiorarchitecture

Whether it's your boss or your boss’s boss, nothing quite kills the mood like facing criticism at work. If you think you’ve had a tough day, read on—you might reconsider.😉 Furniture design is a creative field that often doesn’t get the attention it deserves, unless a designer creates something so groundbreaking it sets the stage for future innovations. But as Hollywood says, there’s no such thing as bad publicity, and Jasper Morrison knows this well. As a leading figure in minimalist design, his work is known for its clean lines, subtle forms, and understated aesthetics. However, Morrison has also faced criticism for being too simplistic, with critics arguing that his practical designs lack flair and innovation. As a result, this debate brings to light a broader discussion about achieving the right balance between minimalism and visual impact. ☝️ Is simplicity ever too simplistic, or does its worth depend on one's perspective? And if it’s the latter, 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲? MINIMALISM: WHAT IS IT & WHY DOES IT MATTER. Minimalism has wide applications – from architecture, graphic design, arts, and fashion, to product designs, theatre, automobiles etc. What is minimalism? It is a “design movement” used in architecture, graphic designs, interior decorations, fashion, arts, technology, product design etc. to emphasize function and eliminate clutter. It involves expressing only the most essential elements of a product or subject by eliminating excessive and unnecessary components and features. It is a reaction to earlier forms of design. It involves stripping a design to its barest, its core, thereby using neutral colours, limited materials, and basic forms and avoiding undue ornamentation. It is a counterintuitive way of achieving pure elegance. The History of Minimalist Design Minimalism emerged in the 20th century as a reaction to or alternative to the highly ornamented designs of the past. Some design historians attributed it to the Dutch De Stijl movement of 1913 to the early 1930s. The movement was supposedly influenced by the Japanese’s zen simplicity and the clean aesthetics of the Scandinavian design. The German architect, Mies Van Der Rohe was credited with the mantra, “Less is More”. In post-war Europe and the US, Mies and other notable architects combined the availability of new materials such as glass, steel and concrete and building processes influenced by mass production to create building designs that looked fresh and elegant. Mies and his contemporaries were largely associated with Bauhaus and modernism. Bauhaus was a German movement that aimed to create a new form of architecture after World War 1. Minimalist fashion, graphic design, and arts theatre emerged in the 1960s. Minimalist product designs began in the middle of the 20th century, laying the foundation for the production of everyday products such as desktop radio, which later culminated in the creation of the iPhone and driverless car. Key Characteristics of Minimalist Designs Less is More Focus on functions Clean lines Monochromatic, limited colour palette Everything has a purpose and place Finally, minimalist design is useful in creating visual brand identities, product designs, publishing, slide deck designs etc. I’ll be sharing more about minimalist designs and other design concepts in future. #minimalist #design #minimalistmovement #brandidentity #strategy #brandmanagement #asharconsulting

“Unveiling Elegance in Imperfection: My Journey with “Crumbled & Cracked” Delighted to share one of my latest projects, a vivid embodiment of the ‘Crumbled & Cracked’ design philosophy. This concept, pioneered by Tarek Wahid, champions the beauty found in decay, imperfection, and the raw authenticity of materials. In this space, every crack tells a story, and every worn surface is a testament to the passage of time. Here’s a glimpse into how ‘Crumbled & Cracked’ comes to life: 1. Raw Textures: Notice the deliberate use of untreated, weathered materials that speak volumes of their journey through time. 2. Contrasting Elements: Amidst the rustic charm, modern furnishings find their place, offering a harmonious blend of the old and new. 3. Light and Shadow Play: The strategic use of lighting accentuates the textures, highlighting the depth and character of the space. 4. Sustainable Approach: In line with sustainable practices, this project repurposes existing materials, breathing new life into what was once considered old and forgotten. This design is more than an aesthetic choice; it’s a narrative of resilience, history, and the beauty of embracing imperfection. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this approach. How do you see ‘Crumbled & Cracked’ influencing contemporary design? #CrumbledAndCracked #DesignPhilosophy #ElegantDecay #SustainableDesign”

ibit.ly/TGvP5 Can the items that we use every day hold historical significance in the future? This question drives Japanese designer So Koizumi's ‘Fossilized Future’ collection. Through rustic furniture designs, Koizumi envisions today's materials fossilising to tell future societies the story of our past. Each piece serves as a medium to express his thoughts on contemporary issues, urging us to view our objects as part of a unified narrative spanning past, present, and future. - Explore the NEW in #contemporarydesign at STIRpad.com- Your #pointofnew - Discover the NEW from designers, brands, galleries, events, projects and more - Images: Yuta Sawamura - #sculpturefurniture #alcovamilano #woodendesign #artsculpture #designobjects #collectibledesign #thinkNEXT #STIR #StaySTIRred #STIRpad
