10 Ways to Preserve your Smartphone

It seems with each release of a new iPhone , a new groundbreaking technology is introduced to the market it results in price increases. If you are iPhone enthusiast. It's hard not to be tempted to buy that shiny new iphone, it's really a vicious cycle. Especially when a brand new iPhone 14 will run around $1,199.00, But I think there will become a time will you be more self aware in your spending habits and start to realize that you are spending too much on smartphones. I mean if you have a smartphone and take care of it , you should expect it to last 2 maybe even 3 years, but if you ever have this epiphany, you should wait until at least until the price comes down before you buy your next smartphone, you should always look for ways to preserve your smartphone for as long as possible so you can keep it a little longer, follow some these tips below.

1.) Buy a protective case for your phone- That was the first thing that came to mind, you should not only protect your phone's housing ,you should look into buying a thin plastic protective case to prevent the glass screen from getting fingerprint smudges ,scratches and even cracks. You should look to invest a case that is both sturdy, strong and are shock and waterproof.

2.) Don't Charge it overnight -Try to get out of the habit of charging your phone all the way to 100% & and also don't wait until it goes to zero to charge.

3.) Allocate more free space - Smartphones do not have an infinite amount of storage available so you might want to identify the apps that are installed on your phone and try to delete the ones that you do not use, that way you allocate and free up more storage space on your phone and avoid from the apps running in the background.

4.) Turn down your screen brightness- If you run your phone all day using the maximum amount of brightness it can result in draining your battery. It's better to adjust it to a level you can comfortably use throughout the duration of the day.

5.) Take care of your phone ports - You should clean your phones often to gid rid of debri dust, lint or dirt . If your phone accumulates too much elements, it may not charge properly or may stop working . There's a lot of useful tips online.

6.) Adding more storage- I know once you having your phone for a long time ,you will have a lot of camera image files you just cannot seem to get rid of and it makes it even harder to utilize your storage. For most android phones you can either use USB C or micro SD, and for iPhones or USB 3 adapter for iPhones will help you expand your storage.

7.) If your Battery dies, replace the battery only - Most smartphone batteries last around 2-3 years This is purely economical choice because most likely the battery will run between $25-$100 dollars vs over 1k for a new iPhone.

8.) Avoid exposing your phone to extreme weather conditions- Exposing your phone in areas of excessive heat or cold can potentially drain your battery. Just be mindful by checking how hot your phone gets, it might be best to turn off your phone during that time.

9.) Update your apps and system - It's generally a good practice to update your apps installed on your phone, this will help keep your apps from crashing and will keep the software system working regularly so you can identify any potential bugs in the future.

10.) Don't sleep with your phone- I know sometimes it's easy to get in the habit and aimlessly googling while laying in bed when a question pops in your head or answering that late night text, but please be aware that if your phone has some type of undetected issue, it can pose as a fire hazard.

Summary: So the more of the steps you follow, the longer you should be able to resist upgrading into a newer more expensive phone, and hopefully by the time you decide to purchase you should be to purchase the model that you want at a fraction of the original cost. Just remember technology is constantly evolving and there will always be opportunities to buy great functional smartphones with interesting technology at a decent price.
