5 ways to help recruit the right people
Many years ago I worked as an Area Sales Manager for an online recruitment company, online recruitment was still in it's infancy, at that point many HR Directors needed a little convincing that this 'new concept' should be part of the recruitment marketing mix. Today the reverse is true, can you imagine trying to reach the right candidates and not using the internet as part of the mix? (how times change!)
There are many ways to reach the right candidates, hiring talent can be as simple or complicated as we choose to make it, as with everything, spending a little time getting some basics right can be a big help.
5 ways to help recruit the right people
1.Predict and plan recruitment needs ahead of time - Spend time planning your structure, consider what resource you have, what you need and then identify what gaps are left after training and internal promotion. Plan the roles you need to fill in advance.
2.Brand your recruitment and sell your opportunities - Spend time designing your recruitment advertisements and copy, tell your story, sell your story, sell your jobs, sell the benefits of joining your business. Motivate the right people to apply. Use a variety of marketing methods including low cost recruitment solutions such as online sites, social media, employee referrals and also networking.
3.Streamline your recruitment process, involve your team - Make sure you are geared up for recruitment by planning the steps you will take with each candidate, online qualification questions, screening calls, virtual meetings and involve colleagues in interview days or interview panels.
4.Be ready to accept applications - Time doesn't wait and neither do candidates who are keen to make their next career move. The timing of your recruitment advertising is critical, you need to make sure you (or whoever is involved) is ready, willing and able to acknowledge and respond to applications.
5.Be ready to accept your new recruit - Make sure that an induction or 'on boarding' process has been planned well in advance and anyone involved in training, introductions or social activities is well briefed. Having spent time and money recruiting the right person you'll now want to invest time in giving them the training, tools, information, confidence and time to help them feel part of the business and do everything they can to make a success of the role!
