ADFD First in MENA to Receive SIDS Partnerships Award

Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (#ADFD) has achieved a remarkable milestone! It is now the first institution in the #MENA region to receive the United Nation Small Island Developing States (#SIDS) Partnership Award on behalf of the #UAE. This accolade celebrates the UAE's exceptional strides in sustainability, driven by the UAE Pacific Partnership Fund and the UAE-Caribbean Renewable Energy Fund, a $100 million financing from ADFD. These collaborative efforts have not only bolstered energy security but also stimulated local economies, fostered innovation, created job opportunities, empowered women, and enhanced climate change adaptation capabilities in SIDS regions.

His Excellency Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, received the award at the Annual Global Multi-Stakeholder #SIDS Partnership Dialogue in New York, coinciding with the #UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. In his speech, H.E. Al Suwaidi emphasized the UAE’s enduring commitment to sustainable development, inspired by the visionary leadership of the UAE’s founding president, Sheikh Zayed, and guided by His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He highlighted ADFD’s ongoing dedication to advancing clean energy solutions and fostering global cooperation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs).

This collaborative partnership involves the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (#MoFA), ADFD, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (#Masdar), and 26 governments of Small Island Developing States, showcasing a unified approach to addressing #climate change and enhancing resilience.

ADFD's receipt of the UN SIDS Partnership Award underscores our role as a global development partner committed to catalyzing positive change.
