Black History Month Employee Spotlight: Meet Simone Guillory
In February, we celebrate Black History Month. Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.
At USA Truck, we are honored to observe the month, while remembering that this celebration and acknowledgment must go beyond just the month of February.
To honor Black History Month and the continuing story of Black history and Black excellence, USA Truck would like to spotlight members of our team.
Today’s Black History Month Employee Spotlight is on Simone Guillory, Logistics Coordinator Team Lead. Simone, a 2020 Platinum Star Award recipient, has graciously answered a few questions about her career, life, and thoughts on BHM for us—here’s a little bit more about Simone in her own words:

A: Chicago, Illinois
Q: What’s a fun fact or two about you?
A: I’ve been to 14 different countries
I read 107 books in 2021. I don't really have a FAVORITE book, but one of the most interesting reads that I had was ‘iGen: Why Today's Super-Connected Kids Are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy--and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood--and What That Means for the Rest of Us’.

Q: What does Black History Month mean to you?
A: Black History cannot be contained or limited to a month, but it is a time to reflect and commemorate the struggle and achievements of those who came before us.
Q: Who are the most influential Black role models in your life?
A: The most influential black role model in my life is not an activist or celebrity; she is the extraordinary woman who gave birth to me. My mother. Her resilience and determination no matter the obstacle is what I admire most about her.
Q: How important is diversity in the workplace?
A: Diversity in the workplace is an asset to any company. It allows for the inclusion of all employees of all backgrounds, acknowledging individual strengths while valuing the differences.
