Caribbean Gem St Lucia

Caribbean Gem St Lucia

When people say Caribbean what comes to mind? Sunsets, White beaches, rum punch, Cricket and that is about it !

Well the Caribbean is so much more, the Caribbean archipelago encompasses more than 7,000 individual islands in an approximately 1-million-square-mile region. There are 13 sovereign island nations and 12 dependent territories, with close political ties throughout the region to Europe and the United States.

Now that is a Lot discover and take in, but what is so unique about these island is their individuality of each. So far after living and working in the Caribbean for over 3 years and visiting a small selection of these island is how diverse they are.

I currently live in St Lucia and i can tell you this, living here is unlike living anywhere else. But before i go on i need to tell all that when you come from the big cities to these small islands you have to take away your big city mentality. The pulling power that the rich cities and countries of the world when it comes to produce far out weighs the pulling power of these smaller islands. So don't expect the finest and the best products but do expect to find traditional roots, unusual styles, mixed flavours, glorious living and unique experiences.

St Lucia is like a home for me now, even though i still have a Traveler's heart and want to see and do more. I grew up in South Africa in the 80's & 90's so being here in the Caribbean now has so many familiarities as back then which makes it feel like home.

This island is a Little paradise with so many unique features about it that 1 week is never enough to explore. As i said in the very beginning that when people say Caribbean what do you envision. Well you have so much more here, there is heritage, culture, cuisine, tropical, beaches, flora, fauna, volcanic and much much more that one cannot believe.

The islands of the Caribbean need to be treated with respect and love because they have so much to offer, the resorts are truly different to the rest of the world from the ultra modern to the boutique and homely style, the adventures are beyond your imagination and lead to a wondrous time. The sea life is abundant and the sailing is phenomenal for those who want to experience this.

St Lucia people are friendly and want to help you, as i said each island to their own so embrace them and don't use them. because that is the big mistake people make when visiting the Caribbean, they think that because they are from a first world country that they can be above them, but you forget that you are in their country, so respect it and the more you respect the better your journey.

If you come to St Lucia and you live the Caribbean way on your holiday and forget the country you came from you will have the time of your life. You have to embrace in order to enjoy that is the only way to do it.

Expect the unexpected because there is more here than meets the eye, you have to dig deep to enjoy, as my picture of the dining area over the ocean is Located at Cap Maison and is called the "Rock Maison" this is but one of the many experiences you can enjoy on this amazing island, "Let her inspire you"

Finally when do i recommend coming, well that is easy between June to August as this is quieter times on the Islands because it is summer it is quite warm and we run into Hurricane season, so that immediately puts people off, but what you forget is the hotels drop their rates to entice the guests and those that make well they are the ones who benefit the most.

So i say see you in summer and come enjoy this amazing island called St Lucia
