Reams Report

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It's an exciting week as I participated in two panels to discuss the future of American clean energy, both at-large and in the transportation sector.

Kicking off the week, I took the stage at The Tech for Climate Action Event Series : U.S. Clean Energy Transition Conference. I was proud to provide a conservative perspective on the many economic and environmental opportunities that clean energy offers, while discussing how policymakers can overcome remaining challenges.

I then switched gears and discussed the value of an all-of-the-above approach to reducing transportation emissions at POLITICO Live ’s event, The Sustainable Future: Driving Toward Clean Fuel. I was excited to highlight the need for a technology-neutral strategy that strengthens the United States economy and national security, reduces emissions in the transportation industry, and diversifies our clean energy portfolio, as recognized in CRES Forum’s recently published white paper.

These discussions were not only a chance to spotlight CRES’ work to advance conservative, commonsense energy solutions with fellow policy experts, industry leaders, and lawmakers, but they were also an opportunity to contribute to the broader discussion on policy that provides Americans with reliable, cleaner, and more affordable energy.

Stay tuned for recordings of both of these events, so you don’t miss out!

Sincerely,

Heather Reams

CRES President

WHAT CRES IS HEARING

“If we intend to maintain electric reliability in this country and reduce emissions at the same time, it is critical that we get this right. That means advancing policies that give carbon capture technologies a chance to reach its full potential.” – Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) in a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing

“Permitting delays have been, and continue to be, one of the most significant risks to meeting domestic mineral production goals… We urge FPISC to abandon this proposal and use its existing authority to actively support all mining infrastructure projects to unleash America's national supply chains and processing capabilities.” – Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) in a letter to the Permitting Council (FPISC).

WHAT CRES IS SAYING

About hydrogen... “And both Republicans and Democrats like that no country has yet seized the lead in hydrogen, in contrast with clean technologies such as solar or batteries, which China dominates. That means the U.S. has a good chance to move ahead of others... You have much more bipartisanship and ability to get things done when you’re in that space…where the U.S. is strongest.” - CRES President Heather Reams discussing hydrogen as a clean energy source in The Wall Street Journal . About an official Congressional delegation to COP28 led by Republican Energy & Commerce Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.)... “Republicans have an important message to share directly with the international community that is different than the Biden administration’s approach: The U.S. is a leader in emissions reduction, and climate policies favored by Republicans balance economic prosperity, national security and environmental protection." - CRES President Heather Reams, president of the right-leaning Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions when discussing Republicans attending COP28. See full statement HERE

About the growth of CRES... “I am delighted to announce the further growth of the CRES team as we continue our efforts as a leading conservative voice in the clean energy space. Jonny’s promotion is well deserved as he has spearheaded the recruitment of new team members, like Sarah Lindsey and Simone Stapley , who will amplify our all-the-above energy approach to a larger audience than ever before.” -  CRES President Heather Reams . WHAT CRES IS DOING

CRES President Heather Reams issued the following statement endorsing Celeste Maloy to represent Utah’s 2nd Congressional District: “CRES is proud to endorse Celeste Maloy for Congress because of her experience in serving the people of Utah and recognizing the role conservatives play in providing more affordable, reliable, cleaner American-made energy.”  See full statement HERE.

To celebrate the release of CRES Forum ’s latest white paper, “Weighing Transportation Alternatives for Reducing Emissions – Light Duty Vehicles," CRES Forum hosted a briefing with the paper’s authors about embracing an all-of-the-above approach to the transportation sector and emissions-reducing alternatives to EV mandates.

CRES VP of Government Relations Shawn Affolter joined the Western Caucus Foundation bicameral staff meeting to brief House and Senate offices on conservative solutions to lower global emissions and strengthen American energy leadership.

WHAT CRES IS WRITING

Right on Energy: Section 48 Investment Tax Credit for Energy Storage

CRES Vice President of Policy and Research Richard Campbell discusses how energy storage will therefore be especially valuable to address hard-to-abate emissions from diesel or oil generation used only in times of peak demand. The expansion of Section 48 investment tax credits to standalone energy storage facilities is a welcome complement to existing federal programming and private investment.
