🔥Climagazette Emergence of ‘Climate Cafes’ in LA, Surviving Climate Change- ‘Sweating it Out’ and effects of Climate Change in Real Estate prices

🍃 Welcome to ClimaGazzette your weekly climate change newsletter that brings you the latest updates and thought-provoking insights. In this issue, we delve into three pivotal subjects that underscore the importance of conservation in ensuring a sustainable environment. Discover how harnessing the power of nature can offer effective solutions to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

We will start this week's issue by exploring the role of climate-change in the real estate business making home ownership an even more difficult task than it already is. Jesse Keenan, a professor specializing in Sustainable Real Estate and Urban Planning at Tulane University, is the go-to expert  for this topic.

Next we are going to dwell into the new emerging concepts of ‘Climate Cafes’ a youth support group inspired by the concepts of ‘Death Cafes’ a platform for openly discussing death. Climate Cafes are free confidential virtual support groups which provide safe havens for individuals to open up about climate-related anxiety, fear, and grief.

We will end this issue by talking about humanity's unique cooling mechanism, sweat. The relentless rise in global temperatures is putting our body’s cooling system to the test, while animals have various ways to cope with heat, humans have perfected the art of sweating to regulate their body temperature but read on to find out what the limits are of our body and how much heat we can really take.

🏡 Hot Property or Risky Business? The Climate Change Game Changer in Real Estate

Ever wondered where you should move to escape the wrath of climate change? Here's the twist about how climate change is affecting the real-estate business– lately climate change has not just been about fleeing hurricanes and wildfires but it's also been about the rising costs of homeownership and home insurance in risky areas. The real estate scene is getting a little heated due to climate change, this is mainly due to soaring insurance prices as well as many insurers stopping insurance coverage in many at-risk areas.

A new emerging concept in the real-estate business is "climate havens” – places with fewer climate risks which have been sought out by increasing numbers of people, however it's worth mentioning that climate change is a world wide phenomena and there is no completely safe place anymore.  For example in places like Sacramento and South Florida, homeowners are sweating over rising insurance costs so much that it is making them think about sharing a roof with others. Many experts such as Keenan predict that neighbourhoods will soon sort themselves out based on quality, architecture with regards to the ‘climate risk’ the house possesses but we still need a clear definition of what a “resilient home” is to figure out how to cut insurance costs.

☕️ Climate Cafes: Where Feelings Meet Climate Change

Imagine this- a cozy virtual gathering where people come together not to save the polar bears or demand petitions, but to feel their emotions, this is what Climate Cafes are all about. At Climate Cafe LA  people from all over the world log in to share their concerns about the future, their climate change anxieties, and the sadness and anger that often bubble up even during everyday moments like watching a neighbor mow a lush lawn or leaving a car engine idling.

These online gatherings are especially unique because they not only provide a platform to process emotions but also because they do not follow an  action-oriented narrative of saving the planet. They provide a platform to air feelings and build a supportive community without the pressure to save the world right away. Here, it's okay not to act immediately; it's okay to feel. Started by Maksim Batuyev who struggled with depression long before he was aware of climate change as a thing. Climate change's mental toll is a global concern. Survivors of climate disasters can be triggered by the smell of fire or rain. Extreme heat events have been linked to increased violence and suicides. There is an urgent need to address climate-related mental health challenges on a larger scale.

😅 SWEATING is helping YOU survive Climate Change 🥵

Yes you heard it right! Sweat serves as a natural cooling system for the body. It evaporates on the skin's surface and dissipates heat. Researchers are delving into the boundaries of human heat tolerance, considering factors like humidity and rapid temperature spikes. They use the wet-bulb temperature, a metric combining heat and humidity, to determine when the human body becomes unable to survive without intervention. Recent studies indicate that the threshold for a healthy person may be lower than previously believed, around 88 degrees Fahrenheit in terms of wet-bulb temperature.

Climate change is projected to place more regions into the danger zone, where elevated heat and humidity levels pose life-threatening risks. Dry heat also presents dangers, as excessive sweating in arid conditions can lead to dehydration. Moreover, early exposure to heat may impact an individual's ability to sweat effectively later in life. Despite the crucial role of sweat in preventing heat-related illnesses, it often carries a negative perception due to its association with body odor. The marketing of antiperspirants and deodorants in the early 20th century perpetuated this stigma, resulting in their widespread use today, even in response to the challenges posed by global warming.
