Content Dilemma - To AI or Not to AI
One of the big dilemmas of the contemporary era seems to be around businesses should use AI.
One article I recently read was about how Google has learned how to spot AI-generated content and is not prioritizing it in search results.
At first view, this feels like a reason to avoid using AI for content generation, but I feel it misses the ultimate point.
The point that I want to emphasize is the PURPOSE behind our content creation. Specifically, are you creating content for the purpose of business advertising or as authentic art?
Content as Business Advertising or Content as Authentic Art?
The idea of using AI to optimize content creation makes the simplifying assumption that the purpose of content is business advertising.
In this case, the answer is to figure out how much the AI content needs to be 'tweaked' in order to fool Google AI into prioritizing it.
From a personal perspective, I view this as a fool's errand ... maybe you have a different point of view (which I appreciate), but I can't see the value in consciously joining a perpetual arms race of content creation AI against content sorting AI.
What is so bad about just being authentic?
The obvious answer to this question is that it takes more time.
This is true, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing ... authentic, artistic content cannot be automated. It is NECESSARILY inefficient.
In my view, that inefficiency is where art gets its beauty. Art is intentionally designed to be time-consuming and difficult to create.
This is where true authenticity comes from.

When creating content, I feel it is always better to bring your authentic self, even if it takes more time.
The reason why this is the mental frame I have decided to adopt is from one simple mindset shift.
Instead of focusing on getting more content out there to build awareness, I focus on creating authentic content that generates value.
That's it!
If you create enough value for enough people, you won't have to worry about money ... it will come and find you.
The thing is that this process doesn't happen very quickly. And why should it?
There are precisely zero meaningful things in life that are built quickly.
The important idea here is MEANINGFUL ... If the goal is to create a business and life of meaning, it makes sense to pursue that meaning over speed.

1yDoug, thank you for bringing this perspective to AI: not just can we do it but why would we do it? I believe there will be AI creating content that people willingly consume, just as there are vending machines dispensing food and radios playing music in stores instead of live musicians. The challenge I see to us as a society over the long haul is to wrestle with whether we need masters of the craft in the long run. For if we don't support the pipeline of skills development across the entire range from novice through intermediate to mastery levels, how will we reach the heights of creativity and expression?
