Kia ora,

Meri Kirihimete and Season’s Greetings to all our supporters and contributors.

It is hard to believe that I am writing this with a little over 12 months to run on ConCOVE Tūhura’s current funding contract. Meanwhile, the sector waits with bated breath to see where the latest reform has landed. Certainty, consistency and nationally coordinated planning is what we need (as ConCOVE highlighted in its submissions), and even with a decision expected imminently, we’d be foolish to expect stability and certainty to be a key feature of the 2025 year.

Vocational education is critically important to many key focus areas for this country; housing and infrastructure being two of those, and as the nation responds to these challenges, I’m hopeful that (despite all the flux and change) education will be seen as important enough to have a seat at the future planning table.

Regardless, ConCOVE Tūhura is powering ahead with projects that will lead to impact in our sectors, and beyond. More and more we’re hearing where project outcomes are landing, and what impact is being made. Still, we know we can do more.

In late November the team gathered for our final planning and reflection session of the year. We reviewed the insights of over 20 recently completed projects, with more than 130 actionable recommendations, and worked on consolidating these into focussed workstreams that will underpin our mahi in 2025. Shout out to Martin Grant from Adaptation who supported us in this work.

The ConCOVE Board and team are committed to turning insights into impactful actions. We're grateful for those stakeholders who are already turning this vision to reality (the recent webinar on the role of work-based trainers is a great example) and look forward to more meaningful kōrero with others as our projects create impact across the wider sector.

ConCOVE Tūhura has always operated at the nexus of the construction, infrastructure, and wider vocational education ecosystem, providing independent perspectives and forward-looking solutions. This mission continues to drive us as we enter our final year. We’re determined to leave a legacy for Aotearoa New Zealand.

The team and I are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together in 2024, and we’ve enjoyed working alongside you. Thank you for your continued support and collaboration.

Our offices will close on Friday 20 December, and reopen on Monday 6 January 2025.

We have no doubt 2025 will be our biggest yet! A year of progress and impact.

Meri Kirihimete. Wishing you a safe, restful holiday season.
