Will Artificial Intelligence ever replace people? 🦾
AI is the buzzword around these parts.
I’ve read about it in the news, seen posts on it on LinkedIn and heard about it in person.
Like when robotic arms began to automate jobs in factories many moons ago, there seems to all of a sudden be an uproar about AI taking over the roles of people in tech, recruitment, and just about any industry you can imagine. Hell most of my clients have it embedded in their products.
One of those AI technologies on everyone’s lips is ChatGPT, a chatbot developed by OpenAI which has garnered attention for its detailed responses and articulate answers across many domains of knowledge.
Its uneven factual accuracy, however, has been identified as a significant drawback.
And that’s your first clue.
Not so fast though.
Why AI works in the workplace 👇
There are a few advantages to this kind of technology. AI won't replace people but it will help executives make quicker and better decisions. People who learn to use this technology to their advantage will replace those that don't.
That is to say, several businesses are now starting to comprehend that the real potential of Artificial Intelligence will actually increase their employees’ skills by replacing error-prone, repetitive manual tasks with intelligent, automated solutions. The idea is that following the implementation of AI, employees can spend more extended time doing creative and higher-priority tasks.
❌ But here are a few other reasons why AI will NEVER replace people ❌

Emotional intelligence is one distinguishing factor that makes humans forever relevant in the workplace.
The importance of emotional intelligence in the workspace cannot be overemphasised, especially when dealing with clients.
Also, AI can only function based on the data it receives. It creates content or solutions based on what is already known. It can’t imagine up new ways of working, or quickly think of a new solution.
Only you can do that.
Importantly, AI is first and foremost, a machine. Despite cries of robot overlords taking over, this type of technology cannot develop soft skills. I’m talking about empathy, teamwork, attention to detail, critical and creative thinking, effective communication, and interpersonal skills, to mention a few.
Hence, these soft skills give you the upper hand in the workspace over AI. Similarly, unlike human beings, AI can’t take into consideration the impact of the outside world. There’s an internal script they have to stick to.
Finally, and it’s the most important thing to note in my opinion, is that AI will not replace people, because people buy from PEOPLE. Where AI and bots may have streamlined a few processes and cut out the middleman, true connection will always win out.
So stop worrying.

1yI prefer to use the word “augmented” intelligence. When we use machines to leverage things we make our lives easier and. More productive. There are so many things that “machines” be it electric motors or silicon and software that can make our lives easier and scale to do things bigger, better, faster. I stated my work with AI in the 1980s & used languages like prolog and lisp and “expert systems”. Language processing allows us so much more than “hard coding” in older languages and required experts to code. Vision, machine learning, voice recognitions etc were all about making it easier to use technology & automation is about creating leverage just as gears allowed us to automate manual tasks. Early languages required us to embed rules which need experts to uderstsnd the heuristics in each field be it medicine or music. Now we are getting to the point of machines able to “learn and code” provided they are given the right goals (prompts) and have the right “data”. Ask the wrong question and/or use the wrong data model will create the same problems. Humans decide if AI is “woke” or not & whether it is rounded, liberal, increases innovation etc The aim was always about increasing productivity with automation.

1yI agree Howard - I don't think it can truly replace the personal, human touch.
