ASD on European defence challenges
On 21-22 March, EU Heads of State and Government convened in Brussels to discuss support for Ukraine and the defence and security challenges facing Europe. ASD welcomed the statements by EU leaders committing to strengthen the EU's Defence Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB) as being crucial in bolstering European defence preparedness.
ASD Secretary General Jan Pie said:
“We welcome that the EU Heads of State and Government unanimously confirmed the commitment to strengthening European security and defence capabilities.
We are pleased to see that in the conclusions, many of the industry’s concerns have been addressed such as better access to public and private finance, incentives for joint development, procurement and investment, better predictability for defence companies through long-term contracts, a more supportive regulatory environment and reliable supply chains.”
