GenAI Innovations with IBM's Strategic Partners: IBM + Samsung
IBM and Samsung have collaborated closely for more than 35 years—a true testament to partnership. That collaboration continues to deepen today with exciting work and co-creation across Samsung Group’s subsidiaries and business units. We’re particularly excited about how we’re leading with generative AI and hybrid cloud to deliver open, secure, and innovative enterprise experiences to customers.
Here’s a look at why IBM’s Ruth Sun, Global Managing Director, Samsung Partnership, is excited about our latest collaborations.
Three Questions with IBM’s Ruth Sun, Global Managing Director, Samsung Strategic Partnerships
How are Samsung and IBM transforming the enterprise mobile device experience?
Managing mobile devices across enterprise users has remained mostly stagnant for 20 years. Within most organizations, mobility management and support tools are siloed, and help desk professionals often lack access to the systems needed to resolve problems.
Imagine an employee loses their phone. What previously would have involved several support calls just to submit a ticket could take days or weeks to resolve. Samsung SDS America’s (SDSA) Zero Touch Mobility is removing challenges like these and others, enabling businesses to manage mobile devices, like tablets and smartphones, across their entire lifecycle, from procurement to retirement. IBM is helping SDSA take enterprise device management to the next level with generative AI.
Where does IBM watsonx come in?
Imagine the challenge of managing tens of thousands of mobile devices across an organization - from deploying new devices to locking them when lost or stolen or providing user support. We worked with joint partners Samsung SDSA and ServiceNow to expand the product’s capabilities through generative AI to provide a better customer experience.
An exciting new feature within ZTM is the conversational AI assistant interface powered by IBM watsonx. The assistant brings generative AI to the solution with on-demand, tailored self-service and translation across over 30 languages, allowing device owners to solve common device challenges before they ever reach the IT support queue.

IBM watsonx also brings data governance to the solution to help maintain compliance with AI regulations across countries.
How else are Samsung and IBM collaborating?
Most recently, we announced work with Samsung Foundry to manufacture our latest IBM Telum II Processor and IBM Spyre Accelerator chips . This new generation of chips is designed to accelerate the use of traditional AI models and large language models for enterprise-scale AI.
We’ve also partnered with Samsung SDS to make Red Hat OpenShift available on the Samsung Cloud Platform to help SDS clients build, modernize, and deploy applications at scale. Samsung SDS America is using Apptio Cloudability and IBM Turbonomic to improve their FinOps consulting practice, providing insights into their own cloud spend while also supporting their clients. Beyond SDS and Foundry, we're also working with Samsung Electronics to explore how IBM software like watsonx and IBM Consulting's application design can enhance Samsung mobile and display technology to create new digital experiences for our customers. These industry-focused solutions can extend tools like AI assistants for enterprise applications across Samsung’s portfolio.
I couldn’t be more enthusiastic about the partnership between IBM and Samsung and where we’re heading. We’re creating open, secure, and innovative solutions that are driving major business and technology transformations.
