Tell us a little about yourself. What are your passions/interests?

I love spending time with my family; creating memories is most important to me.

Who is the most influential woman you know?

The most influential woman I know would be my mom. My mom was an immigrant from Jamaica and came from nothing, worked a minimum wage job until her untimely passing. During my childhood, I remember vividly how she woke up with a smile despite the trials and tribulations she had to encounter every day of her life.

She made sure my siblings and I had food on the table and clothes on our backs by stretching her paycheck. She never stumbled; she pushed through so much adversity. She is most influential to me because she taught me how to persevere through all obstacles that may come my way.

"Do not live by fear, take a leap of faith and control your destiny."

What does the phrase, “Empowered women empower women” mean to you and how do you live this in your daily life?

When you hear the term, “Empowered woman” you think of a woman who exemplifies grace, holds high standards for herself, and doesn’t mind lifting up the people around her. I have two daughters who I empower daily. I instilled in them the power to do whatever they set out to do, and to be confident, not cocky. I tell them it’s okay to make mistakes but make sure you learn from them the first time. I tell them, "Do not live by fear, take a leap of faith and control your destiny." I not only teach this to them, but I also lead by example.

What do you want others to know about being a working woman in corporate America?

I would want others to know there are no limits to what a woman can do or be in corporate America. For example, when I started out in corporate America, limits were put on me, not based on my abilities but based on what other corporate leaders thought I was capable of. In turn, I had to set goals for myself based on what I KNEW I was capable of. So, for up-and-coming women in corporate America my advice to you is: Set a bar for yourself, write down a timeline of strategic moves you would like to make, tap into who you would consider as a mentor. That person will teach and guide you from a professional and intellectual perspective. Once you have gained additional tools and resources, use that to catapult you to the next level.

My favorite quote:

"If you dare nothing, then when the day is over, nothing is all you will have gained.” --Neil Gaiman

 About BeHUMAN

Music has long transcended all nationalities and cultures and serves as a common denominator breaking down barriers and bringing individuals together. Communities all over the world face some of the same social ills preventing them from assisting in the sustainment of a better quality of life for families, safe environments for our students, and promoting intergroup relations and tolerance.

I would want others to know there are no limits to what a woman can do or be in corporate America. For example, when I started out in corporate America, limits were put on me, not based on my abilities but based on what other corporate leaders thought I was capable of.

The BeHUMAN Foundation and Movement will utilize music and poignant messaging to give our communities a platform to triumph over oppressive situations and inspire each other around the world to do the same.

The BeHUMAN Movement leverages public-private partnerships and challenges others to commit resources to improve the lives of our communities, families, and students worldwide. BeHUMAN will expand collaborations with experts and organizations working succinctly to emphasize community-led solutions that promote a culture of humanity.
