Insights from a Tech event. Techsylvania

This is the first year I joined Techsylvania Conference (http://www.techsylvania.co/), but definitely not the last time. Here is where engineers, entrepreneurs, marketing professionals and others meet for two days with the aim of SHARING.

Beyond all the information presented within the event, the most impressive aspects for me were the presented life stories, and the openness and eagerness of participants to share knowledge on stage and off stage. This last action we can perform so easily and get so much in return, such as: generating NEW ideas, collecting feedback and adjusting our plans in time, connecting with great people and spreading our work.

Within this context of innovation framed by Techsylvania organisers and speakers, I learned many valuable things that we all, especially leaders, should consider in our activity irrespective of our activity field. Let's have some examples:

  • engage the people with your product or service through the experience you provide them;

  • give ownership over the work to the team or individuals by setting the objectives with them and leaving them the choice of how to achieve those goals; forget about TO DO lists, the killers of initiative and creativity;

  • ensure a work context where people have the freedom to experiment;

  • better to do small steps and build around simple ideas that you have the chance to test and see they work;

  • avoid a high level of attachment to a direction, otherwise you risk too much to take a wrong path and misinterpret the feedback that comes to you or close your “eyes” to obviuos indicators of failure. However, do not be afraid to fail and get on track to continue the trip. Just learn from your mistakes and do better next time. IMPROVE. Success does not come over night, it is a long trip and requires effort, courage to return after a failure and do things even better.

  • Solve problems through analysing them from different perspectives; challenge your thinking and get out of your comfort zone.

To sum up, Techsylvania, an event that goes very well for an entrepreneurship spirit, brings a fresh perspective for professionals across domains.
