Intelligent Automation News #20

ChatGPT and generative AI in general is the talk of the IT universe. I’ve found two interesting points of view on this new tool, one from @John Mancini and one from @Deep Analysis. Celonis talks about #processmining for government and the public section.

See Doculabs in person! We’ll be speaking at MER and Document Strategy Forum in May! Details are below.

How Process Mining, Execution Management Can Transform Government, Public Sector Financial Processes

Federal, State and Local governments are entering a new phase where financial transparency, process excellence and efficiency at scale will matter more than ever. And Process mining and Execution Management can play a big role in zero-based budgeting.

Like enterprises, the public sector is facing a new financial era marked by inflation, higher interest rates and a funding spigot that's returning to normal after the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a recent US Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, there are multiple opportunities to address fragmentation, overlap and duplication of processes throughout the government. If addressed, the GAO estimates that the government could save tens of billions of dollars. Read more on process mining.

What Accounts Receivable Data Mining Reveals About Your Business

These days, most companies aren’t lacking data. In fact, a lot of organizations are drowning in it. What sets successful companies apart is the ability to analyze and understand the data to optimize performance.

Data mining, the practice of analyzing large databases to generate new information, is fast becoming an indispensable practice. It seeks to discover data patterns and anomalies, find causal relationships in them, and make predictions about the future. In accounts receivable, a close examination of your data can reveal significant operational issues, ranging from market changes to how your organization conducts its sales process. Accounts receivable and data mining.

ChatGPT Takes the Stand in Its Own Defense

At Deep Analysis, they’ve been having some fun with ChatGPT. While tongue-in-cheek, the “defense” points to a number of issues to understand relative to ChatGPT used in conjunction with intelligent document processing (IDP). A useful reminder that just because a particular technology is “hot” it might not be the best fit to help you achieve your business goals. ChatGPT takes the stand.

What's in a Name: The Enterprise Content Management vs. ChatGPT Trajectory

Former AIIM president John Mancini has some interesting thoughts on ECM (as one of the people responsible for industry adoption of the label) versus ChatGPT and speed of awareness. Much like the article above, a useful reminder that ChatGPT isn’t a miracle technology. There are a variety of difficult governance questions that must be addressed around ChatGPT – and artificial intelligence in general. More on ChatGPT and governance.

Black Swans, Gray Rhinos, and Silver Linings: Anticipating Geopolitical Risks (and Openings)

The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the COVID-19 pandemic are only two recent geopolitical events that have caused everyone to recalibrate business strategy. This article from McKinsey offers useful insight on why boards need to have strategic conversations about these risks. From the article, “Even as boards and CEOs work to build capabilities in managing such risks and developing geopolitical resilience, the imperative to lift one’s gaze and look around the corner has become key to strategy and performance. Scenario planning is squarely back.” More about geopolitical risk planning.

AI Value Begins With Managing the CIO Conversation

Every futurist and forecaster I have talked to is convinced the transformative technology of the next seven years is artificial intelligence. Everyone seems to be talking about AI. Unfortunately, most of these conversations do not lead to value creation or greater understanding. And, as an IT leader, you can bet these same conversations are reverberating throughout your organization — in particular, in the C-suite. Manage the conversation.

The AI Issue - really interesting how many of the articles hit on the speed of 'interest' wonder what the adoption will be on ChatGPT.
