INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Women have always played a crucial role in society, contributing significantly to various fields. In recent years, the importance of women in the workforce has gained recognition, highlighting their proficiency in diverse careers. This paradigm shift reflects not only a commitment to gender equality but also a recognition of the unique skills and perspectives women bring to the table. Through training and skill development initiatives, women have not only grown but have also risen to remarkable heights, defying stereotypes and carving their paths towards success.

Women have faced persistent challenges in the corporate world, struggling with systemic barriers that hinder their progress in leadership roles. Historically, gender bias, unequal opportunities, and stereotypes have impeded the professional growth of women. In STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, the underrepresentation of women has been particularly pronounced, creating an environment where they encounter obstacles ranging from implicit biases to limited access to networks and mentorship. By focusing on technical skills in fields like STEM, training initiatives have helped women overcome the barriers to entry, providing them with the necessary expertise and confidence to compete on equal footing.

One of the hallmarks of women empowerment is the rise of women leaders across various sectors. In the tech industry in India, names like Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (Founder, Biocon) and Aruna Jayanthi (Former CEO, Capgemini India) stand out as inspiring figures who have broken barriers and paved the way for others. These leaders showcase how women can excel in leadership roles, bringing innovation and diversity to the forefront. Entrepreneurship programs tailored for women have equipped them with the necessary entrepreneurial skills and knowledge to start and scale their businesses. From micro-enterprises to large corporations, women leaders like Anuradha Gupta (Founder & CEO), of Amantya Technologies and many other women-leading businesses are making significant contributions to the economy, driving innovation, and creating employment opportunities.

Furthermore, training and skilling initiatives have played a crucial role in empowering women in rural and marginalized communities. Through vocational training programs, women are gaining valuable skills in areas such as agriculture, telecom, handicrafts, and healthcare, enabling them to generate income and improve their livelihoods. As a significant stride towards fostering entrepreneurship in rural areas, the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) has introduced "Grameen Udhyami," a specialized course aimed at promoting and nurturing entrepreneurs in these regions. The objective of this initiative is to foster robust industry integration, fostering the development of high-end, industry-aligned employable skills while standardizing qualifications for telecom professionals.

On International Women's Day, let's honour and celebrate women's triumphs through training initiatives. Supporting the enhancement of women's education and skills is crucial for building a more inclusive society.

At the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC), our commitment to foster skill development is exemplified through Centre of Excellence collaborations with SBI card and Vodafone where we offer comprehensive training programs specializing in telecom and Industry 4.0 job roles, ensuring that our trainees are equipped with the latest industry-relevant skills. Our initiatives extend beyond skill enhancement to actively promote women empowerment, creating a supportive environment supportive environment.
