January 2024

January 2024

New year, new trends. Let’s get into them, shall we?

  • It wouldn’t be January without the word “dry,” and as low- and no-alcohol options continue to appear, hotspots like The Bandbox are offering tasting experiences and pairings.
  • Speaking of, checkout SAVØR: Portland’s FIRST (and maybe the US’ first?!) Zero Proof Cocktail Week.
  • Searches for mushroom coffee are growing. Expect to see more brands like Wunderground Coffee pop up in a kitchen near you.
  • Time to turn up the heat – Scorpion, Guajillo, or Hungarian Goathorn peppers are reaching beyond the spice aisle. Think: beverages (have you tried De La Calle Mango Chili Picante Tepache yet?) and beyond.
  • Table for one, please. Solo dining is on the rise. But if we’re being honest, it’s always been our thing.
  • Move over, hibiscus. Botanical elements like wasabi peas and flowers will pop up in cocktail menus as floral elements continue to trend.
  • Remember last month when we told you “Mean Girls” was coming back to the big screen? Now it’s coming to your table.

  • Luxury brand collaborations will continue to trend, driving the hot “experience economy.” Expect luxe après ski clubs like the REVOLVE & FRWD pop-up in Aspen.
  • We could all use a daycation. Rosewood, Six Senses, and Aman are adding private clubs for local residents into their urban hotels.
  • Passport-free is the way to be. International airports are rolling out automated immigration checkpoints that use passengers’ biometric data.
  • If you’re wondering if TSA PreCheck is worth it – they just introduced an upgrade to make your trip through security even faster. (So, the answer is yes, it is worth it.)

  • Architectural Digest dropped its famed list of AD100 2024 honorees, featuring talents who have taken the design world by storm through hospitality, food & beverage, home, and beyond.
  • From Shuggie’s Trash Pie in SF to Cafe Mars in NYC, wild maximalism is here to stay.
  • Designers are hitting the dinner table. Expect more interior x goods collabs, like the it-girl-favored ribbon dinnerware collection from AD100 designers.
  • A warm robe, a glass of bubbly, and quiet moments are closer than you think with the arrival of “spa-throoms.”
  • The obsession with biophilic design continues, with builders creating lobbies and spaces where guests can see, touch, and feel connection to nature.

·

  • Social media SEO is going to continue to drive strategy. Roughly 40% of Gen-Z use TikTok and Instagram to search instead of Google – even more reason to get that content and keyword combo right.
  • Click-to-message ads are going to rise. With many users preferring one-on-one messaging or group messaging versus public posts, these ads will generate more meaningful interactions for your brand.
  • It pays to post. Rewards for UGC will continue, with brands giving everyday users kickbacks and incentives for quality posts.
  • Threads rolled out its own hashtag feature, but nobody is really that impressed yet.
