Warm and Welcoming

First impressions count, right?  Well, these top companies know it too.  They kickstart the onboarding experience way before Day One.  Once you've accepted the offer, they'll reach out with a personalised welcome message.  It's like receiving a hug that introduces you to the company's culture, values, and your future team.  They might even throw in pre-boarding materials like an employee handbook or some useful training resources to get you prepped and excited.

Tailored to Perfection

No one-size-fits-all approaches here.  These companies take onboarding personalisation to the next level.  They craft customised onboarding plans that match your role, experience level, and specific needs.  They understand that you're unique, so they'll provide the training, support, and resources you require to hit the ground running.  It's like getting a custom-tailored suit that fits you perfectly.

Buddies and Mentors

You know that feeling of having a friendly guide to show you the ropes?  Well, these companies have got you covered.  They assign you a buddy or mentor who'll be your go-to person during the onboarding process.  They'll introduce you to the company culture, help you navigate the ins and outs, and even assist you in building relationships with your new colleagues.  It's like having a trusted friend by your side as you embark on this exciting journey.

Training for Success

These great companies understand that proper training is the key to your success.  They won't leave you high and dry, struggling to figure things out on your own.  Instead, they offer comprehensive training programs that cover everything you need to know.  From informative orientation sessions to job-specific training, they've got your back.  And guess what?  The learning doesn't stop there. They'll continue to provide you with ongoing professional development opportunities.  Lifelong learning, anyone?

Open Lines of Communication

Communication is the name of the game.  These companies foster an environment of open communication from the get-go.  They ensure clear channels for you to voice your questions, concerns, and ideas.  You'll have regular interactions with your manager and the HR team, creating a supportive space where you feel heard and valued.  They believe in aligning your personal goals with the company's vision, making you an integral part of the team's success.

Building Bridges, Making Friends

Who says work can't be fun?  These tech wizards understand the importance of building connections beyond work tasks.  They organize team-building activities, social events, and even team lunches to foster camaraderie and create a positive work environment.  You'll have the opportunity to bond with your colleagues, share some laughs, and build lasting relationships.  It's like joining a new squad of superheroes!

Support for the Long Haul

The support doesn't stop once the initial onboarding phase is complete.  These companies are committed to your long-term success.  You'll have regular check-ins with your manager, performance reviews to celebrate your wins, and opportunities for continuous learning and development.  They'll be there to guide you, support you, and help you grow both personally and professionally.  You're not just an employee; you're part of their family.

There you have it.  The insider insights into top tech companies' onboarding excellence.  Armed with these tips, you'll be well-prepared to create your own stellar onboarding experience.  Remember the importance of warm welcomes, personalised plans, supportive buddies, comprehensive training, open communication, social connections, and ongoing support.  Now, go out there and conquer the world, one successful onboarding at a time!

Awesome article Lee! The training piece is so important. It blows my mind that TA are responsible for Quality of Hire as a metric when training and engagement post offer is the largest factor in people leaving in the first six months.

You have to wonder why onboarding in this day and age is still so painful. From HR to Technology, it could/should be so much better. Automation anyone?
