New job, new me!

New job, new me!

The current landscape in the technology industry is bereft of the same energy it once had. With layoffs and redundancies impacting the wildly talented humans that are peers of mine, it begs the question as to why one might find it appropriate to share a celebratory new job post on LinkedIn.

*Cue: Survivor’s guilt*

The old me might gleefully update a simple status without a thought, but the wiser, more contemplative me, understands that I am here because of a combination of privilege, luck and hard work. That knowledge is to be shared for the greater good, not harboured for the privileged few.

Early in career, I was taught to relish in the chase of the next big thing - from brand name to brand name, glamorising travel and work perks and splashing it across all socials for all to see! It has its place no doubt, but I’ve been searching for something a little more….

Fulfilling? Aligned? No… that’s not quite right.

Self-actualising...a.k.a achieving one’s full potential, including creative pursuits?

Yes, that’s it.

A little ambitious, but why not?

Recently, I spent time carefully selecting what was next for me. A brand/human in Phill Nosworthy that I have admired for many years since we first met, posted up a cryptic video, inviting a “brilliant, strategic, new member” to join their team.

Little did I know, it was the North Star that my side passion projects were gravitating me towards my whole career. At 17, before sagely choosing my Business and Law degree, I dreamt of being backstage at large scale productions. A small part of a mighty, high energy team pulling off the most brilliant audio and visual show your eyes could see. Beyond that, I found myself engaging in strategic business model development, both in the startup and social enterprise space, moving towards smaller and smaller teams for maximum impact as the years went on. More recently, my passion for making personal development pragmatic and punchy turned into my first eBook about perfecting public speaking - from years of exposure to people with incredible storytelling techniques that taught me.

Few of these dreams related my expected career path.

So, what’s at the crossroad of all of those passions?

Becoming an architect for meaningful change by leading purpose-driven program design for the world’s greatest talent, crossed with the finesse and agility of film & tv style global learning events at Nosworthy Group.

Yet, unlike the painter who’s home is never painted, my new team at Nosworthy Group practice what they preach. Literally. They care and practice diversity and inclusion with expert hands, exercise psychological safety daily, and they invest in their team with regular Development Days.

Responsible for impacting the lives of some of the greatest minds at some of the greatest companies, I’m honoured to both bear witness and hold the paintbrush for the delivery of transformative experiences (forgive me for using THOSE words but they truly are).

It was not by accident that it took me 4 weeks since starting to share my thoughts (ok maybe a little, I was distracted by onboarding in style at our HQ in Byron Bay, after all…)

It was so that, on the eve of my first 1-3am live show, I could share that I’m filled with hope and excitement stemming from day 1 trust and empowerment from this team. Boy does it feel good, and the new me is grateful for all the learning that’s headed this way….at breakneck speed!

Special thanks to Luke Swetman 🏳️🌈 , Jason Atkins and Phillip de Winter too :)
