PRIDE SPOTLIGHT: Matt Baines, General Manager, Trade & Retail, AC UK & Ireland

In celebration of Pride month, which took place in June, we are shining a spotlight on the stories, motivations, and recommendations of our LGBTQ+ community members and allies. We aim to celebrate the diversity within our workforce and the unique contributions of our employees.

In our final instalment, we had the pleasure of speaking with Matthew Baines , General Manager, Trade & Retail, at PPG Architectural Coatings UK & Ireland .

1. Tell us more about yourself:

I'm Matt Baines, the General Manager for the UK & Ireland Architectural Coatings business. I’ve been with the company for nearly 30 years, serving in various roles.

I live with my wife, two grown-up children, and our dog Sam. I enjoy travelling, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

2. Why is Pride so important to you and how did you celebrate Pride month?

Pride is a fantastic opportunity for people to come together, have a good time, and celebrate diversity. It underscores the importance of everyone being able to live without fear of being different. I’ll be celebrating at Leeds Pride and showing my support on Sunday 21st July.

3. What motivated you to join the LGBTQ+ ERN and why should others consider joining?

Every ERN network is a chance to learn something new about others and myself. We all live in specific environments that shape our views of the world. ERN's have helped me see beyond my usual perspective, making me more open, self-aware, and willing to embrace new opportunities and viewpoints. It's a great self-development opportunity for everyone.

4. What can allies do to support the LGBTQ+ community?

Get involved and show your support as much as you can. Whether you contribute a little or a lot, it all adds up. One by one, we can send a clear message that there’s no place for discrimination. Each of us has the power to make a difference.
