Proud in Tech: Meet TRI’s Kerri Fetzer-Borelli

Pride Month is more than just an excuse to wear rainbow-themed clothes. It is a month to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of 1969, celebrate progress, and set collective intentions to further advance the LGBTQIA+ community. It is also an opportunity to meet and learn from those who are #ProudInTech. This Pride Month, TRI is featuring #ProudInTech employees who are bravely breaking barriers and ceilings in technology. For our very first feature, meet Kerri Fetzer-Borelli:

What do you currently do at TRI?

I am currently the head of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Community Engagement at TRI.

What do you love most about what you do?

There are so many incredible humans who work at TRI and my role has given me the opportunity to collaborate, learn and connect with many of those individuals on a deeper level. My intention is to have a meaningful, positive impact in their lives at work.

Why is Pride Month important to you?

While the discussions that take place during June are part of the lived experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community (a beautiful alphabet soup) throughout the year, Pride Month is an important opportunity to reflect on the progress made towards gaining equal civil rights and set intentions for continuing that progress in the future.

Pride Month also affords us the platform and opportunity to help others understand why we celebrate, how much work still needs to be done, and hopefully inspire them to help make progress towards a world that values everyone.

I also can’t complain that Pride Month gives us an excuse to wear all rainbows!

How is TRI celebrating Pride Month?

TRI is celebrating Pride Month by holding space for joy, learning, and reflection. We have a few events planned in partnership with our LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group (ERG), including a virtual dance party and a documentary screening of Disclosure that will be followed by a panel discussion with our community partner Out in Tech. On Slack, daily facts are shared to enable further learning about the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as help allies understand what they can do to help advance and protect LGBTQIA+ people within and outside of work.

The LGBTQ+ ERG will also be collaborating with TRI’s African Diaspora ERG members to commemorate Juneteenth and discuss ways in which queer liberation and Black liberation are tied together, and how important it is that we’re mindful and intentional about how we talk about the history of LGBTQIA+ rights in the United States.

When you’re not working, what are you doing?

When I’m not working you can find me hiking, kayaking, riding motorcycles, or hanging out at our local community arts market with my wife Paige and dog Marlo.

What’s currently on your playlist or on repeat?

I have to use this opportunity to shout out Anjimile who just put out a new album, Giver Taker, which is excellent and I have on repeat!

What #ProudInTech advice would you like to share with others?

Share your power. As you gain access and privilege to have a voice in new spaces, don’t hoard that power for yourself. Use your position to help others gain access too.
