Pull Up A Chair and Meet Angala Elmore, Waste Water Manager, Cromwell Facility
Q. Tell us a little about yourself.
A. My name is Angala Elmore, and I am the environmental manager for the Cromwell facility. I live in Caneyville, KY (Grayson County). I am happily married to Steve Elmore for 39 years this coming June. We have one son who married with 2 children and one on the way. I am an open book. What you see is what you get. I am a firm believer in family & good work ethics. Everyone knows this about me. We all have a responsibility to do our job as safe and productive as possible.
Q. How did you end up in the role as an environmental manager at Perdue?
A. I joined Perdue in 1996 working on the drum & thigh line. From there, I worked as a floor person. After a year and a half, I was promoted to Line Lead on Grade – N – Hang. In 2000, I got the job of Wastewater Lab Tech, which was my first job in environmental. I went on to get three certifications: Wastewater Lab Tech I, Wastewater Operator III, and Drinking Water Operator IV. I became a Wastewater Manager in 2020. I have learned so much being in the environmental department and am teaching my grandchildren how important it is to be environmentally aware.

Q. Can you tell us what exactly is a Wastewater Manager?
A. I really love my job. There is never a dull moment. I make sure water lab results are complying, all chemical feeds are correct and that we are doing what we need to keep us in Compliance with the State of Kentucky. My direct reports are all Wastewater Operators, as well as Water Plant Operators. We ensure everything is within compliance before the water is treated and it is sent back to the Green River. I feel like we are one big happy family. We are such a small group so this can be overwhelming at times. We also must comply with the Kentucky Division of Water. We must be up to date on all regulations with the State & EPA.
Q. What tips do you have for people wanting to be more sustainable at work and home?
A. To maintain sustainability, our associates know we must show up & do the best that we can do. No question is a dumb question. I have contact with all of them throughout the day & night for our 3rd Shift Operators, as well. I stress that everyone could be certified in water & wastewater. I will do my very best to make that happen if they come to me to see what they need. This has been a fulfilling career for me & I want all my associates to be given the same opportunities as me. I have had some of the best environmental managers and supervisors to help me along the way.
Q. What is a fact about you that most people don’t know or would not guess. Interesting hobby?
A. My hobbies are just following my grandchildren around & watching whatever they are involved in. They are my life.
