Reasons Indian employees stay in an organization

India is a unique and diverse country, hence the needs of Indian employees are very different from the west.

Employees in India, have various reasons for staying with an organization. Some of the common reasons include:

  1. Job Security: This is the most important aspect and given the least importance by organizations. Organizations fail to understand that when you shoot one bird on the tree the other fly away because of the sound of shot. In a country with a vast and competitive job market, many employees value the stability and security offered by long-term employment with a single organization. Job security becomes even more crucial in uncertain economic times.
  2. Compensation and Benefits: If you don't give competitive compensations and good Merit increases, employees will leave for a better salary. Competitive salaries, performance bonuses, and comprehensive benefits packages play a significant role in retaining talent. Employees are more likely to remain loyal to organizations that offer fair compensation and attractive perks such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off etc.
  3. Career Growth Opportunities: Employees are more likely to stay with an organization that offers clear paths for career advancement and professional development. Opportunities for promotions, skill enhancement, and learning new technologies or methodologies are highly valued. India organizations prefer to hire Managers from outside rather than given change to internal champions. This India proverb suits most Indian organizations "पराई थाली में घी हमेशा ज्यादा क्यों दिखता है?"
  4. Work-Life Balance: With the increasing demands of modern life, employees appreciate organizations that prioritize work-life balance. Flexible working hours, remote work options, and supportive policies for parental leave or caregiving responsibilities are important factors that contribute to employee retention. How many India organization make employees work less than 48 hours a week ? 6 days a week and minimum 10 hours a day is inhuman.
  5. Company Culture and Values: Respect for employees and a positive work environment, strong organizational culture, and alignment with company values can foster a sense of belonging and loyalty among employees. Organizations that prioritize employee well-being, diversity and inclusion, and social responsibility are likely to have higher retention rates.
  6. Recognition and Appreciation: Employees value recognition and appreciation for their contributions to the organization. Regular feedback, performance evaluations, and rewards programs help foster a sense of accomplishment and motivate employees to stay committed to their roles.
  7. Job Satisfaction: Ultimately, employees are more likely to stay in an organization where they feel fulfilled and satisfied with their work. Factors such as meaningful job roles, challenging assignments, supportive colleagues, and a positive supervisor-employee relationship contribute to overall job satisfaction.
  8. Location and Commute: In urban areas especially, proximity to the workplace and ease of commute can influence employees' decisions to stay with an organization. Accessible and comfortable transportation options and amenities in the vicinity of the workplace can enhance employee satisfaction and retention.

These factors may vary from one individual to another and may be influenced by cultural, economic, and organizational factors specific to India. Employers who understand and address these factors are more likely to retain top talent and build a loyal and engaged workforce.
