Restaurant Franchise Captive Program 2018 Board Meeting Guest Speakers: Huntington Beach Police Department Homeless Task Force

On January 17th 2018 we had a Best Practices Meeting on behalf of our Restaurant Franchise Captive Program. This is a time when we gather all our restaurant franchisee owners together to share best practices, largely centered on safety and preventing customer and work related injuries and losses. At the end of the meeting we had a survey with our members on what topic they would like to learn more about. A large majority of our membership wanted to know how their employees could safely deal with the homeless in their restaurants. Since York has a Senior Manager of Risk Control who is dedicated to the RFCP, we have the unique ability to research topics that our owners and their operators simply do not have the time to research. Starting with nothing more than our memberships desire to learn more on the topic, through extensive research, we were able find numerous resources for our members. On May 10th, 2018 we were able to make the desired training happen for our valued members. The Huntington Beach Police Department Homeless Task Force spoke to our membership on how to effectively deal with the homeless in their restaurants. Subject matter included: Types of homeless, municipal codes typically violated by homeless, importance of managers being willing to sign Citizens Arrest forms to help law enforcement do their job, writing a behavioral based program that relies on behavior rather than appearance to protect their companies from ACLU lawsuits, the right to refuse service, and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Principals. The training was well received by our members and at the end, we provided the Huntington Beach Police Department Homeless Task Force an Outstanding Service Award plaque thanking them for everything they for the Business Community and the work they do in support of the most vulnerable members of our society. Here at York we look forward to exceeding our member’s expectations and helping our RFCP members turn their premiums into profit!
