Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you are enjoying this holiday with your loved ones.
All families are wounded, it just depends upon the degree.
My own family has journeyed on God’s Healing Path since 1985, when we put one of our 3 children into drug and alcohol treatment. God used that first breakthrough in healing our woundedness for me to also begin my own healing journey. This journey has supported me in helping hundreds of other families become aware of, accept and take corrective action relative to their own inter-generational emotional and spiritual wounds. Our Family Healing Ministry, “The Family Center For The Sacred Heart” is devoted to healing these emotional and spiritual wounds and transforming family pain and conflict into joy. I am privileged to see these unfolding healing miracles every day.
People often ask me: “How do I and my family take their first courageous step onto God’s Healing Path?”
There are two steps in this courageous process:
- Becoming aware of and accepting there is a problem in the family, whether it’s with relationships, grief, anger management, mental health, addictions, or sexual abuse issues etc. This is a very difficult step. Our Popular Culture teaches us that if we have any problems, we are failing and no one wants to feel like a failure.
- Once the problem is specifically or generally identified and accepted, then you reach out for this help, which is the first courageous step of Walking Onto God’s Healing Path.
Reaching out for this help is the most difficult step because this is when your FEAR is greatest. Afraid you might make a mistake, afraid things might get worse, in healing sometimes things do get worse before they get better. Afraid what your family or friends might think of you if you reveal this wounded family secret. It’s our secrets that keep us sick. Without corrective action, nothing changes.
There are 2 acronyms for FEAR: 1.) False Evidence Appearing Real (90% of what our fearful minds tell us never happens and 2.) Forgot Everything Is All Right (God always has our back through the good times and the bad—There was a time I didn’t think any of our family, including me, would survive the various traumas we had to go through over the past 32 years--- Today, God’s Best Days are ahead of us as they will be for you when you take that first courageous step of healing---feeling the fear and taking the first step anyway.
I am extending my hand to you to help you take that first courageous healing step. I had to reach out to many others in 1985 and beyond for their support to begin our Family’s Healing Journey.
