This role is critical for executive & employee retention...

According to Deloitte's June Report on the C-Suite's Role In Wellbeing:

📌 68% of employees and 81% of the C-suite say that improving their well-being is more important than advancing their career.

📌 Roughly 1 out of 3 employees and executives are constantly struggling with fatigue and poor mental health.

📌 Both executives and employees are finding it difficult to prioritize their health.

The report concluded that a focus on wellbeing will be critical for both employee and executive retention.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted an already mounting problem in the workforce where chronic workplace stress and burnout are adversely impacting employee wellbeing and performance at work.

Research by the American Medical Association found that nearly 3 in 5 employees report negative impacts due to work-related stress.

When businesses called for employees to return to in-person work, they were met with a Great Resignation.

Now, the workforce wants to work for companies that value employee wellbeing. 

When you put your employees first, they’re more likely to be engaged, productive, and loyal.

Companies that embed wellbeing into their culture are investing in creating systems, policies, and programs that help employees feel valued and well at work—cue in the growing demand for the Chief Wellbeing Officer, or CWO

What is a CWO?

A Chief Wellbeing (or Wellness) Officer is a senior leadership member responsible for creating a work environment where employee wellbeing is prioritized and supported.

The CWO uses data to track turnover, productivity, and burnout metrics to determine if the wellness-focused strategies implemented are working.

Their role also includes change management and ensuring that employee wellbeing is considered in every company decision.

Ideally, the CWO would work closely with the Chief Human Resources Officer, combining their areas of expertise to create a strategy that works for the people and the business. 

Alongside senior leaders, CWOs can help companies transform their culture from the inside out to put employee wellbeing at the center of everything they do. 

When your business isn't big enough to justify a full-time CWO role...

Not every business is large enough to have a CWO on payroll, but this doesn't mean there's nothing they can do.

This such a great idea Dr. Adeola Mead, I agree this role is critical in organizations in its own right and at the very least, insourcing the expertise of someone like yourself. It's got me wondering, is this indeed a recently developed need or has it always been there but we've become better at talking about it?
