Spot On Insurance Welcomes Safiya Reid

Arleen and I are really excited about our guest this week! Safiya Reid is not only a long-time fan of Spot On Insurance; she also hails from our old stomping grounds of Brooklyn.  She’s also involved in an area of the insurance industry that’s near to our hearts – surplus lines compliance.

Even before getting her Master’s degree in communications, Safiya achieved outstanding success as a Healthcare Representative with Pfizer, Inc. In just six months, she increased her sales quota from 60% to 106%. She went on to hone her operational expertise working with merchant processing and radio and market research firms before joining the insurance industry. Safiya now serves as Reporting (Compliance) Manager for PURE Insurance. This role requires her to work closely with state insurance departments, surplus lines associations and multiple internal departments.

Her desire to serve the needs of the people that showed up for her every single day prompted Safiya’s decision to move from market research to the insurance industry. The PURE office she managed was spinning up new initiatives focusing on the needs of smaller brokers and surplus lines. As Safiya explains it, her curiosity led her to ask questions. Those questions led to ad hoc projects that turned into ad hoc responsibilities. She seized those opportunities, and they opened doors for her. Now, Safiya is helping open doors for others by working with her alma mater, Spellman College, to recruit highly engaged and motivated students to the insurance industry.
