Student Spotlight
The thing I love most about the Formula Careers project is being able to learn about the next generation of motorsport professionals who are currently working hard to achieve their dream career. Their stories truly inspire me and there's always so much to learn from them. I'd like to introduce you to three ladies who are on the road to a bright career in motorsport:
ZALA RAUTER
Tell us a little bit about yourself
My name is Zala, I come from Slovenia and I’m 23 years old. I’ve always been passionate about different sports but my interest in motorsport was only sparked a couple years ago by a friend at the university. I found this sport so unique and different from any other traditional sports as there are numerous intrinsic and extrinsic factors that ultimately contribute to one’s performance.
Tell us what your dream career would look like
My dream goal is to become a performance coach for elite motorsport athletes or pit crews, particularly for those in the higher/elite series (F1, F2, F3). As a driver performance coach I would oversee drivers’ physical fitness by delivering strength and conditioning sessions and monitor their wellbeing, nutrition, and recovery status. Such role requires year-round work and strong organizational skills to be able to adapt to drivers’ packed schedule and coordinate with the multidisciplinary team (driver coach, nutritionist, physiotherapist etc.).
Alternatively, I’m also interested in doing research work for motorsport companies (sport biomechanics, physiological data analysis, etc.). There is a lack of scientific literature regarding motorsport athletes compared to athletes in traditional sports. Therefore, being involved in research that helps improve understanding of the physiology and biomechanics of this sport is also something that is meaningful to me.
What are you currently studying?
I’m currently doing my studying at Mid Sweden University for MSc in Performance Optimisation (Focus in Elite Sport). Before that I completed a BSc Applied Sport Science at the University of Edinburgh.
What’s the best thing you did to get you to where you are today?
I would say being proactive and persistent towards my goals. I have been told since the very beginning that this area is hard to get in especially for me being a female and having very limited practical experience in any sport. It’s about thinking outside of the box – what can I do that is different but will still get me to where I want to be. People will notice your effort and ambitious if you present yourself confidently, as a hard-working individual.
Sofie Ceyssens
Tell us a little bit about yourself
My name is Sofie Ceyssens. I am a 22-year-old girl from Belgium with a big passion for motorsport and travel. Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to travel the world and work in sports. As I have a very close relationship with my brother and dad (and of course my mum as well), we gained a mutual passion for cars (Porsches) and motorsports.
During the start of the Covid pandemic, I realised that my dream job would be to work in motorsports and to travel the world for my job. To gain some experience, I joined a local team, called Belgium Racing, under the lead of former 24H of LeMans and F3000 driver Marc Goossens. They gave me the opportunity to join them during different races including the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux as pre-programme of DTM, giving me a great insight in the world of motorsport and its marketing perspective.

Tell us about your dream career, and what it would look like
My dream career would of course be to work in Formula One and to travel to all the different countries with them. In the meantime, my passion for motorsports has expanded to multiple series and championships so I would feel absolutely honoured to work for Formula E, W Series, Extreme E, FIA WEC, Nascar, etc. as well!
As I absolutely love meeting and engaging with new people and getting to know different countries and cultures, my dream position would be Community Manager or Content Manager so I can create content and engage with a large public to share the passion of motorsports with them.
What are you currently studying?
I’m currently finishing my Master’s degree in Communication Sciences at the KU Leuven in Belgium and normally will graduate in June. Before that, I did a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing with specialisation in International Business.
Did you do any extra-curricular activities/work experience?
Yes, as soon as I found out I wanted to work in motorsports I started looking for work experience. Very quickly I found out that the world of motorsport is very closed so experience and building a network is key. That is also how I joined Belgium Racing. I got to join them during different races such as the Nascar Whelen Euro Series and the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux, which was a pre-programme of DTM.
I also received the opportunity to work during the Dutch Grand Prix where I could join the press and media team as a volunteer. Through both experiences I used the opportunity to talk to lots of people from different teams and organisations to build a network. I truly think it is very important to talk to people and to expand your network during these opportunities to grow further in the world of motorsport.
Elisabeth Moro
Tell us a little bit about yourself
Hi, I’m Lis, I’m an engineering student and archer. In the little free time I have between study and sport I like to read, travel and go hiking.
Tell us about your dream career – what would it look like?
My primary interest at the moment is developing highly efficient engines. I would love to work in F1 or supporting companies and travel the world for work. I’m a person who dives right in so I work well in an environment with long days and long holidays.
What are you studying?
I study Automotive Engineering BSc at Politecnico di Torino. I’m 23 years old and only just started university after having worked for a few years. It’s a little daunting to be surrounded by students much younger than me but I love the course!
What’s been your highlight so far?
London E-Prix was a wonderful experience, thanks to an altered schedule from the original plan (due to Covid) I learnt a lot about how to approach the search for work experience and volunteering.
My mum taking an interest in my passion and coming with me to Festival of Speed was also a very special moment.
