Supporting Open Education Resources
Open education resources (OER) are invaluable assets to education—for both students and professors. Often OER are creative, engaging, and collaborative and are accessed in formats that better fit the behavior of all in the educational community. OER materials do benefit, however, from the attention of professional publishers. The right touch can improve every resource—removing errors, improving structure, and making it more readable.
For years, Scribe (www.scribenet.com) has supported the development of more effective pedagogic tools, especially when they increase accessibility and inclusion. Since working with FlatWord Knowledge starting in 2009, our foray into OER in 2015, and then again in 2017 with the Open Education Network (at the time Open Textbook Network), we have developed an approach to editing and producing OER that meets the needs of each project. We do not simply edit according to a stringent (and sometimes outdated) set of rules: our approach is more flexible. We determine the best approach to each project, taking into account the subject matter, the audience, the voice(s) of the author(s), and each text’s distinctive offering. We will work within your budget and can accommodate each situation. We are adaptable to OER programs, schedules, and abilities.
Our staff consists of professionals who have years of experience operating within educational institutions, communicating with authors, and properly managing projects. We are able to work with any publication, whether it is produced through normative (i.e., print or ePub) means, within an established platform or learning management system (LMS), or through other means. We stay in tune with current pedagogic methods and ways to improve comprehension (and thus retention) of subject matter. We are committed to accessibility and have developed the industry's most advanced workflow to ensure publications are accessible. We are never satisfied with our achievements and constantly strive to improve.
If you are working on OER, we would love to connect with you. Together, we can help craft the most accessible, inclusive, and effective resources to augment learning.
