Sustainability Update: June 2024
The LGA’s Sustainability Programme, in partnership with the Crown Commercial Service, provides councils with the tools, networks and guidance to help drive their sustainability goals. This month’s update features news and opportunities for colleagues across the sector.
The Sustainability Action Network, led by councils, is designed to support officers working in sustainability related roles within local government. Members discuss emerging issues and trends affecting councils and share best practice. If you would like to join, you can submit an expression of interest form.
On 11 June, the LGA is hosting a roundtable looking at the role local authorities have in the roll out of electric vehicles and associated charging infrastructure. You can express your interest now.
Next month, our sustainability masterclass will increase the climate change knowledge and skills of local leaders. You can hear about carbon literacy accredited training courses that the LGA has been delivering to local authority councillors from across England. Registration is open for this July 16 virtual event.
Later in the year is our housing decarbonisation and retrofit roundtable which will explore how the sector can influence and improve the energy efficiency of housing to deliver mitigation targets within decarbonisation and retrofit programmes. If you are interested you can sign up today.
We recently held a virtual event on Greenhouse Gas Accounting support for councils, which explored the updates to the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Accounting Tool and the Waste Emissions Calculator. Councillors, council officers and climate experts from Local Partnerships spoke about the tools and ongoing updates to them. You can check out the event presentations, summary blog and the tool and calculator.
