TD Community Resilience Initiative: Building on the Strength of BC and Yukon Charities

It goes without saying COVID-19 has presented challenges for many – even more so for those who were already overburdened before this health crisis began – and with reduced incomes resulting from the pandemic, many individuals and families may be feeling uncertain about their future. During this period of change, it is critical that social services continue to be available to help community members overcome economic and health obstacles.

I'm pleased to share that TD Bank is providing $150,000 in funding to more than a dozen social service agencies and organizations that deliver critical support to vulnerable communities across British Columbia and the Yukon during the COVID-19 crisis. The funding through the TD Community Resilience Initiative is part of the TD Ready Commitment, the Bank's corporate citizenship platform, where $25 million (CAD) is being allocated to organizations engaged in COVID-19 response and community recovery across the TD footprint.

In the Pacific Region, this funding is being provided to organizations such as Food Banks BC, YWCA Metro Vancouver, Dr. Peter Centre, Covenant House, United Way Southern Interior and others to help continue their community service mission. During this time, their front-line workers and volunteers are working tirelessly to ensure people in crisis continue to have access to much needed services and support – a hot meal, place to sleep, career counseling, and a compassionate ear.

I am proud to share this news with you all and to highlight the amazing charities that have shown true resilience over the years and, of course, the last few months. They continue to adapt and innovate to help those facing unemployment, poverty, violence, and isolation, even as they face pressures of their own. Their ongoing contributions and success are pivotal to making communities healthy and strong – helping to ensure everyone has a chance to thrive today and into the future. #TDReadyCommitment
