There's No Good Without A Little Bad
It was in Bali 1994 that I first heard the saying above. Here at the end of 2017, it continues to resonate with me as one of life's simple yet profound truths.
Almost exactly 12 months ago I visited the Dr. for a routine check up and soon found myself lying on an operating ward bed listening to the Cardiologist telling me he was most surprised to find what he did during the Angioplasty and I'd have to have a stint inserted and a life style change post haste. A nice present to receive the day before Christmas Eve.
Fast forward twelve months and I'm reflecting on the fact that my family, friends, colleagues and I have achieved some things I most proud of this year:
- My wife and I finally made the sea change we've been working towards for 20 years and purchased a little house by the beach on the Sunshine Coast;
- Our youngest graduated from year twelve achieving a better than predicted OP and yesterday received an early offer from the university he wanted to attend, for the course he wanted to take. In addition, our two girls continue to go from strength to strength in their chosen pathways and have each achieved major awards/recognition for their endeavors at university;
- At work we saw an idea two-years in the making come to fruition with the launch of The OrgDev Institute (ODi) which I'm proud to be teh Chief Development Officer for, working with an amazing Advisory Board drawn from industry professionals around the world;
- PD Training continues to go from strength to strength being finalists in many industry awards, achieving record results and, moving into its own Brisbane CBD offices;
- My health & fitness has dramatically improved as I've formed the habits of healthy eating and regular exercise (although Belchambers still don't run!);
- We've managed to catch up with family and friends in the UK for the second year in a row, had trips with friends in Australia and are having loved ones stay with us over the holiday season.
So as I found myself strolling along the beach at sunrise reflecting on the year that was with a massive smile on my face and yes, a tear in my eye it's no surprise that my mind wandered back to Bali and reinforcing my belief that...
"There's No Good Without A Little Bad"
May I wish you and your loved ones a holiday season full of smiles, love and laughter and a 2018 where when any bad comes along, you remember that it's simply the prelude to the good times ahead!
