Video On (when you can)

For video conferencing calls please consider setting your video to “ON”.  Of course, there are times that it may not be an option to keep the video on for connectivity or various other understandable reasons. For those that can turn their video on, a big thank you!  

Below are some of the advantages of keeping the video on or at least toggling video on and off during the call:

     1.   It sets a friendly tone especially during the introduction phase of a call. 

     2.   Better communication: Most experts agree 70 to 93% of communication is nonverbal. So, keeping your camera on can improve communication.

   3.    Many people really miss daily face-to-face interaction! They recharge by being social. Seeing real-time faces and getting some live dialogue can make a big difference for them.

Also, if you can’t use video, (or you didn’t have time to get out of your pajamas), please consider putting a picture of yourself in your video conferencing profile. Anything is better than a blinking black box. 

Seeing faces is good for the soul so thanks again to those that can turn the video on.

I'm one of those people that seems to guilt people to turn their cameras on, but honestly, if I'm presenting something new, if I can't see them, how do I know if they are confused, have a question, etc? I read their facial expressions as I present. And frankly, in this world of filters, everyone is so hard on themselves, thinking they look terrible. They all have looked absolutely fine to me.

Totally agree. Seeing people eye to eye helps make a connection and personalizes the screen-first pandemic shift when possible. It’s the closest experience to feeling in-person.
