What is Web3? - Africa, the source of Web3 Talent.

What is Web3 (a.k.a Web 3.0)?

The short answer I always give is; Web3 is the 3rd iteration or version of the internet.

Long answer:

Web1 was the internet that mainly focused on users reading or consuming information, I call this the “Read Only Version”.

Web2 is the internet that allows users to interact, e.g social media platforms, that have become a part of our lives, and we knowingly or unknowingly share our data with them every day, I call this the  “Login With Social Version”.

Finally, just like in any technology, it evolves over time and the internet is evolving into a place where more and more users are becoming aware of and questioning the use of their data. Currently a work in progress, Web3 is a vision of a decentralized, trustless, and open Web with greater utility for its users. I call this the “Decentralized Version.”

I know a lot of people believe that this may be another passing “tech thing” of the moment. While I think Web3 is real and already here, I do acknowledge that we still have a long way to go before it matures and more people adopt it. With that being said, I do support its vision and I think it's not something people should be quick to dismiss.

For the thousands of individuals developing various decentralized applications (Dapps), access to talent is a huge challenge. AfriBlocks is working hard to provide Web3 teams from across Africa to serve the world’s growing talent demand.

As the world transitions to Web3, the global tech talent pool shrinks. AfriBlocks seeks to enable Africa’s talent to transition into in-demand Web3 skills that provide freelancers with more economic opportunities while providing the world with top African Web3 talent.

We have been building a robust technology infrastructure that equips freelancers and clients with intuitive gig management tools, secure payment integrations, and professional skills development resources.
