Why SEO is important for Small Business

Search engine optimization (SEO) is what increases your chances of being found when customers search for a product or service like yours with Google, Bing, and other search engines. If a customer is using a search engine to find what they need and you dont show up, you dont exist.

Why SEO is Important

There are numerous ways to get the word out about your business: phonebook ads, flyers, radio commercials, paid online ads, and more. But all of those things cost money.

On the other hand, if customers find your business while using a search engine its like free website traffic (also called organic traffic). Though you may spend some time optimizing your website, youre not paying for each new lead like with pay-per click (PPC) advertising.

SEO is important because it is the most cost-effective way to bring in new customers that your business. So why dont more people do it? SEO takes time and patience to do right. Most people just want fast results and arent willing to invest the time, but it never happens over night.

Many Small Business owners dont know about SEO because they think they can only market their business offline. And most of these people have no knowledge about computers or the Internet whatsoever.

Most of these are restaurants, tire or hardware stores, repair services, even barber shops. They dont know that the Internet has a big impact on their business. Imagine a customer saying a bad review about a small restaurant, and you cant defend yourself because you dont have any brand on the Net. Or you cant make people entice to come to you, to buy your product or service, or come to your restaurant on the Net because you dont exist in the Cyber World.

A salesman or a right person who can talk to these business owners about SEO, even social media marketing, will bring wonders to their businesses. Consider these business owners lucky if somebody will introduce to them the power of SEO and other forms of Internet marketing.

You can spend hours and plenty of money writing the best website content, but it wont matter much if your on page SEO as lacking. So invest the time and make sure your website has what it needs to get your business found on internet..

In general, what the SEO does is to make your site not only visible or searchable to popular web crawlers like Google, Yahoo, or Bing but it also pushes your sites visibility to other kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

Of course, as an small business owner, when people search about the products or services that your brand offers, you want Google or Yahoo to put you in the first three pages of the search results. In fact, if you learn that 75% of search engine users dont bother looking at page one, the pressure turns on.

Whats even more baffling is when you learn about the concept of how search engine like Google works and how it continuously redefines search parameters.

What does this mean? If you are lucky enough to put your new site on Googles page one hits because of the initial high traffic and your self-promotion (which Google's algorithm picked up) in your social media during your first month of launch, it doesnt mean you will be on page one for the next six months.

A good SEO expert understands this process and keeps up with the latest trends and techniques to ensure his or her clients stay on top and keep their rank by making necessary changes and updates
