Group Vice President; Chief Sustainability Officer; Global Head of Engagement, Government Affairs, and Policy at GE Vernova | Servant Leader
It was a true honor to participate in the Atlantic Council’s 2024 Veterans Advanced Energy Summit, which brought together leaders from across government and industry to explore how energy and #NationalSecurity are more linked than ever. We were able to meet with so many veterans at the event, and celebrate the contributions those around the country make every day as part of the energy transition. I also took part in an important, thought-provoking panel with current and former leaders from The White House, the United States Department of Defense and the UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY, where we discussed the integral role #energy, #ClimateChange, and #innovation now plays in national security. With the attacks on Ukraine’s civilian energy assets as a catalyst, the global push for energy security has been a fundamental game changer, with three key pieces coming to the forefront: #1 building resilient and strategic supply chains, #2 strengthening public-private partnerships, and #3 strategic investments in energy climate innovation for economic development and competitiveness. We know the world needs energy and innovation – from SMRs, to carbon capture and sequestration, to powering the AI boom and high-tech manufacturing. The question we debated is how to ensure strategic leadership and competitiveness in meeting the demand on a global stage. GE Vernova is proud to support our partners in the U.S. government, and we are working every day to help lead the energy transition in strategic ways mindful of energy security, national security, and competitiveness. We are proud that veterans can and do play an integral role at #GEVernova, with their vast skillsets and strong work ethic, and I truly enjoyed being in a room with so many of these heroes. As an added inspiration, I was able to meet with three of my inspiring GE Vernova colleagues who are part of our Junior Officer Leadership Program #JOLP: Christopher Divarco, Karl Ehlert, Rebecca (Cabrey) Novack, as well as three of our JOLP Alumni Jackie Chimiak, Steve Bravo, and Kevin Burns Thank you to The Honorable Meredith Berger, Joe Bryan, Jake Levine, Vice Admiral Dennis McGinn, Retired, and our moderator Sherri Goodman for the impactful panel at a critical time, to the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center for hosting this important event, and to our veterans for their honor, courage and sacrifice. Following last week’s gathering in DC for the Veterans Advanced Energy Project Summit, the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center has now published the policy research myself and my fellow colleagues put together over the last year. If you’re curious to read more on my recommendations for emissions reduction within the defense industry and the adoption of a scalable sustainable aviation fuel program, check out the link below! https://lnkd.in/g_YvvCQT And as an added bonus, we were also treated to a tour at the capitol—which just made me miss calling DC home! Thank you again to Kevin Doffing, Chase Thalheimer, and Landon Derentz for coordinating such a great experience.

China's cleantech sectors, facing resistance from the US and other nations, are looking for new markets. Brazil is a potential top buyer, but it must avoid over dependence on China, write Joseph Webster & William Tobin: https://lnkd.in/dcTUtK65

Last week I attended the 2024 Veterans Advanced Energy Summit hosted by the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center. Headquartered in Washington D.C., the Atlantic Council is a nonpartisan think tank focused on shaping global policy and fostering international collaboration. Having been chosen as one of this year’s fellows for the Veterans Advanced Energy Project, I had the opportunity to attend this event, involving leaders from the private and public sectors and government and military officials. Some memorable moments included: 🌎 A fireside chat on the role of energy transformation in redefining defense and national security strategies involving Admiral James O. Ellis, USN (Ret.) and facilitated by Landon Derentz 🌎 A panel discussion on bridging the gap between civilian and veterans in energy sector featuring Kevin Doffing, Mary King and Stephen O’Rourke and 🌎 Seeing three of my Naval Academy classmates! (Special shoutout to my marathon teammate Jackie Chimiak for being the sole reason I applied to this fellowship in the first place!) Looking forward to working with the other fellows again. Thanks Benjamin Byboth, Christopher Olson, Chamai Shahim, EMGM and Jason S. K. for the good conversations last week! At the Atlantic Council 2024 Veterans Advanced Energy Summit, senior military officials, policymakers, and industry leaders gathered to explore the nexus of energy and defense. Throughout the Summit, speakers highlighted: - The United States' role in advancing the energy transition; - Opportunities in the US military to mitigate risks through new technology; - Strengthening energy security provides numerous opportunities for the environment, the economy, and national security. There is nothing more important to national security than energy security, Admiral James Ellis noted in an opening fireside chat with GEC's Senior Director Landon Derentz. Great day learning from an absolutely fantastic panel of leaders in the energy and national security community at the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center’s Annual Summit for the Veterans Advanced Energy Project in DC. Today felt like a culmination point for myself and the other fellows after the last year of hard work on our own policy proposals. Hearing these speakers cover the broad groundwork many of us are passionately in the weeds on in the day to day gave credence to the reality that the nexus between the defense industry and the future of the energy transition is a ripe policy playground for veteran talent in this industry. Integrating our climate and clean energy goals into the strategic military planning for sustainability programs, critical minerals, operational energy, emerging technologies, supply chain demands, and future battle spaces will be critical to the success of the warfighter, our national and energy security, AND our carbon pledge globally. Today felt like a firm acknowledgment from the national security community that the energy transition is at the epicenter of military success. And, for those of us in industry, the right talent to be leading this charge are the veterans who can understand both landscapes. So grateful to Invenergy for continuing to sponsor this growing program and I certainly will not be walking away from the work the Atlantic Council has started with us any time soon. If you’re curious, look here to learn more about what we covered at today’s summit. https://lnkd.in/gWnKr9qX
