Kansas City has $2.5 BILLION of development breaking ground over the next 6 months! Here are 10 of my favorites (in no particular order, all numbers subject to change, not all with pictures):
*The $800 million mixed use KC Current development next to the new CPKC women’s soccer stadium on the Riverfront that will create a neighborhood with hundreds of apartments, restaurants, retail space, and office space on what is currently a huge surface parking lot.
*The new $500+ million West Bottoms historic district project from Somera Road that will add 1,200 apartments, 168,000 square feet of office space, retail space, a hotel, and a public park. Plus historic preservation of some gorgeous old buildings.
*The $300 million Parade Park Homes redevelopment by Flaherty and Collins and 12th Street Heritage: 1,000+ apartments with a significant portion to be senior and affordable housing, next to 18th and Vine on the east side.
*The 5.5 acre South Loop Park to be built over highway 670.
*18th and Paseo by Grayson CRE that will create apartments, retail space, a hotel, and the all new Negro Leagues Baseball Museum on what is currently a surface parking lot in 18th and Vine.
*Bodhi (we broke ground already but still exciting): an affordable housing project from SaveInc and Vecino Group supporting people who are experiencing homelessness.
*1818 Main from Copaken Brooks: 13 floors of transit oriented development right on the streetcar line on Main Street.
*4 Light, the next high rise apartment building downtown from Cordish Companies with 24 floors and 293 apartments right next to the South Loop Park (see above).
*Historic Northeast Lofts by Arnold Development converting a 22 acre site with a massive warehouse into 389 apartments, 80% of which will be affordable, and some interesting community benefits to the neighborhood.
*800 Grand, which isn’t public yet but it will be something big both physically and metaphorically. The existing site is vacant buildings and this old parking garage.
