How can private equity (PE) companies drive forward sustainability initiatives and create value for both investors and communities? That’s the focus of BCG’s second annual Sustainability in Private Equity report. Insights include: 1️⃣ In 2023, renewable energy use in PE-backed companies grew from 6% in newly acquired firms to 14% over the ownership period. 2️⃣ While 22% of PE-owned companies have decarbonization strategies, this lags the 29% at public peers who do so. 3️⃣ However, PE-backed companies with decarbonization plans are reducing emissions nearly twice as fast as public firms. In the second part of the series, we dive into how Behind-the-meter (BTM) solutions can provide a competitive edge. Evaluating footprint, understanding cost and resiliency advantages, and leveraging D-level interconnections are key steps in optimizing BTM assets. Onsite carbon-free energy projects can lower costs and accelerate delivery, particularly in regions with high premiums and interconnection delays. Read more about the factors that drive BTM value. https://lnkd.in/gexJCQxN #BTMSolutions #EnergyEfficiency #CarbonReduction

🌍 Significant investment is needed to fund the green energy transition, with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) estimating an $18T funding gap, including $3T from the oil and gas sector. Our latest findings from BCG’s 3rd annual Oil and Gas Benchmark on Low Carbon Solutions show that while commitments to low carbon investments remain steady, over 90% of project capacity (CCUS, hydrogen, and derivatives) is still pre-final investment decision (FID). Explore Part I of our series for insights into how O&G companies are recalibrating their strategies amid rising interest rates and shifting market dynamics. Thanks to our authors: Ilshat Haris, Emmanuel Ricolfi, Vasilii Triandafilidi, PhD, Rebecca Fitz, Ann Elise DeBelina, and Sumit Verma. #LowCarbon #EnergyTransition #NetZero

Niche offtake markets played a pivotal role in the early adoption of combined-cycle gas turbines (CCGT) and renewables. By targeting sectors with a high willingness to pay, these technologies gained the momentum needed to scale. Today, emerging technologies like long-duration energy storage and enhanced geothermal can follow this path. Identifying and securing niche offtake opportunities will be critical for their success. https://lnkd.in/gDPs8WJW #ClimateTech #EnergyTransition #NetZero #Sustainability #Innovation #NetZero #CleanTech
