Going to humble brag a bit... But for your benefit more than mine. For anyone working in the realm of AI, especially as a decision maker in an organization implementing and adopting AI systems, we must ensure we are keeping pace with advancements across a broad spectrum, but especially with regard to strategy, operability, risk management, compliance and security. While I am continuously learning, networking and utilizing apps in the realm of AI, I still need to validate my performance against current developments and advances across the broad landscape of its expansion and impact so I stay sharp. I can't serve you well if I don't stay on the front lines so I have as close to real time knowledge as I can get and relay back, now can I? To this end, I am happy to report that I've obtained my AI Practitioner badge from CFTE - Centre for Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship upon completion of their AIQ (Artificial Intelligence Quotient) Assessment, a worldwide first of its kind. I did score lower in "Governance, Ethics and Security", one of the five areas measured, than I expected to... But, that's okay as it showed me where I need to focus my efforts to maintain a well rounded level of knowledge necessary to continue to deliver value to each of you, and those who rely on me to advise them on how to navigate a complex field of questions and considerations. Thanks to my close friend and colleague, Stephen Pullum, I've already begun to gap-fill with an AI Governance course he introduced me to from Securiti, which I'll link at the bottom of the post. The best part? It's FREE!! (Who doesn't love free AND valuable?) So, if you'd like to know where you stand, I encourage you to take the assessment (linked below) and identify where you could use some sharpening. CFTE states the average score is 60 out of 100. I was hoping to crush that... And had I not bombed the aforementioned category, I would have exceeded an 80 point total, but instead scored a 67, so I'm still happy to have tested above average! Knowledge is powerful, there is no doubt, but ensuring you have the right knowledge at the appropriate levels to stay ahead in what you're doing is key to sustainable success. Overnight success takes decades. I had the honour of meeting Dr. Saeed Al Dhaheri to discuss how the UAE’s remarkable leadership in AI is not a sudden achievement, but the result of decades of vision, planning, and investment in national infrastructure and talent. We spoke about the UAE’s strategy - how it went from appointing the world’s first Minister of AI back in 2017 to setting a goal of being an AI-driven government by 2027. What’s often discussed are the billions of dollars invested by the UAE. But what’s truly impressive is how much of this is built on foundations laid decades ago through countless initiatives that may not have made headlines at the time, but are now proving essential. This long-term philosophy is deeply rooted in the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who said: “Future generations will be living in a world that is very different from that to which we are accustomed. It is essential that we prepare ourselves and our children for that new world.” That preparation has become clearly visible today. One example: over 20 years ago, Dr. Al Dhaheri led the Emirates ID project, creating a national digital identity long before most countries had similar systems in place. That kind of infrastructure is now central to enabling digital services and AI integration at scale. In our conversation, we agreed that while AI strategies often focus on infrastructure and investment, the most important foundation of all is talent - ensuring that citizens, both professionals and the next generation, are equipped to thrive in an AI-driven world.
