A survey conducted by CIEE Council on International Educational Exchange in May 2024 revealed that participants tend to prioritize different aspects of internships depending on whether they are inbound participants coming to the U.S. to work and learn or outbound U.S.-based participants going abroad. For outbound U.S.-based participants, 70% search by location first, followed by internship opportunities. Conversely, 72% of inbound participants coming to the U.S. focus on researching the internship opportunities before considering the location. This highlights the importance of offering attractive, meaningful roles that can draw in top talent. The Value of Global Internships for Career Readiness In today’s competitive job market, career readiness is more important than ever for recent graduates. A new study by CIEE and IIE, in collaboration with eight key organizations, highlights the positive impact of participating in global internships on employability outcomes. With data from over 607 alumni, the study reveals that global internships offer a unique opportunity for students and recent graduates to develop crucial skills while gaining international experience. Of the participants, 48% completed internships in the U.S., 46% abroad, and 7% virtually, with representation from diverse backgrounds.
