We envision a day when a student’s future is determined solely by their talent, motivation and effort. Founded in 2015, College Possible Chicago has grown to support a projected 1,800 students each year from under-represented communities on their path to earning a college degree. Our pioneering model matches eligible students with a near-peer coach and an evidence-based curriculum designed to help them overcome the most common barriers to getting into college and completing their degree – all at no cost to students or their families. Compared with their peers from similar backgrounds, College Possible students are 30% more likely to enroll in college the year after high school graduation, and three times more likely to earn a bachelor’s degree. Headquartered in Saint Paul, MN, College Possible operates: regional sites in Austin, TX; Chicago, IL; Milwaukee, WI; Omaha, NE; Philadelphia, PA; Portland, OR; Saint Paul, MN; and Seattle, WA; as well as Catalyze partnerships in California, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas. Today, I officially completed my AmeriCorps service term at College Possible Chicago. This experience has been transformative to say the least. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with an organization who is fully dedicated in empowering students to persist and graduate from college! Not only did I work here, but also it marks the achievement of getting through a career transition. I cannot express the tremendous time that I had working with my students and as well as the coworkers and staff who supported me through this journey. Special shout out to Alexandra Herrington, M.Ed. my attentive supervisor that gave me the tools to grow professionally and learn everything in order to succeed as a College Success Coach. Thank you to all whom I worked with; I had an amazing time, and I will miss you all!

We’re excited to share that two College Possible Chicago students were selected by CareerSpring for their FORWARD internship program. Himani Niroula, a student at University of Michigan, has been placed with MERGE for a summer externship. Himani hopes to use this introduction to marketing and the corporate environment to make decisions about her career path as she continues her studies. Yasir Hirsi, who attends University of Wisconsin-Madison, will gain valuable experience in the IT department at YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago thanks to the FORWARD program. Yasir looks forward to applying concepts from his computer science courses to the work he will be doing this summer. Thank you to CareerSpring for providing these crucial opportunities for career exploration and development, and congrats on your internships, Himani and Yasir! 🎉

Last week, we celebrated graduating high school seniors and introduced them to the support they’ll receive from us in college at our annual Launch event! 🎓 Seniors had the chance to ask current college students and William Blair employees questions about making friends in college, staying organized for class and more. Last night at the MCA, we welcomed 300 supporters and champions from Chicago’s civic, business and philanthropic communities to recognize honoree Martin Nesbitt at our 4th Annual Results by Degrees Benefit. The event included a student speaker, a fascinating conversation between Marty and Gretchen Crosby Sims around entrepreneurship, philanthropy and education, and questions from College Possible students. Students had such a great time visiting University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for Illini Fest last weekend! Thank you to the team at La Casa Cultural Latina for welcoming us to campus for a day of activities that included touring cultural centers, learning about DEI at UIUC and watching the Fighting Illini spring football game.
