Over time, the Edelman Trust Barometer has tracked a trend in trust being local. People are more likely to trust institutions and individuals they directly interact with than they are to trust bigger institutions and their leaders. An example of that trend is employees trusting "My Employer" more than the other institutions we measure trust in (business, government, media, and NGOs). “Trust is local,” says Richard Edelman, CEO of Edelman. He shares a datapoint from Edelman Trust Institute that the institutions workers trust most are their own employers, over governments, media, and business in general. What does that mean in a context where workers and consumers are looking towards businesses to weigh in on issues as diverse as DEI, the 2024 election, and the war in the middle east?
