EURAD-2 brings together 143 organisations across 21 EU Member-States and 6 international countries, willing to share a Vision, Strategic Research Agenda and Roadmap and positively supporting its implementation. Those organisations fall into three categories of actors; (i) Waste Management Organisations whose mission covers the management and disposal of radioactive waste, (ii) Technical Support Organisations carrying out activities aimed at providing the technical and scientific basis for notably supporting the decisions made by a national regulatory body and (iii) nationally funded Research Entities which are involved in the R&D of RWM, under the responsibility of MSs. EURAD-2 organisations have also the ambition to strongly interact with key stakeholder groups: Civil Society Organisations, Waste Owners/Producers and International Organisations (such as IAEA and NEA). The concept of EURAD-2 is to generate and manage scientific and technical knowledge to support EU MSs with their implementation of the Directive 2011/70/Euratom, and more specifically with the development and implementation of their national RD&D programmes for the safe long-term management of their full range of different types of radioactive waste, taking into account the different magnitudes and stages of advancement of national programmes.

The Kick-off meeting of WP12 #RAMPEC of EURAD-2 has officially launched the research activities!! 🧪 ☢️ The meeting was hosted by Fisicoquímica de Actínidos y Productos de Fisión (FAPF CIEMAT) Unit at CIEMAT in Madrid (Spain) from March 18th to 20th, 2025 . 👏 😍 A hertfelt thank you to all attendees, both in person and online, for your contributions!! These days we had the opportunity to present all proposed research activities, engage in insightful face-to-face discussions, and establish new collaborations. 🥘 We could also enjoy afterwork a tapas dinner at the Chiringuito, CIEMAT’s sports area!! This week I have been at CIEMAT attending the kick off meeting of RAMPEC, the work package 12 of EURAD-2. I presented the work to be done at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) in the frame of this project. It was a very good beginning, with a very insightful exchange about future work, and a great chance to meet old and new colleagues. Coming back to Ciemat was also very exciting for me, as it was where I did my PhD under the supervision of Ursula Alonso de los Rios. It is always very exciting meeting friends and colleagues again! Thanks to Ursula Alonso de los Rios, Tiziana Missana and all their team Fisicoquímica de Actínidos y Productos de Fisión (FAPF CIEMAT) for the great organization!

Today, I had the opportunity to actively participate in the preparation and presentation of posters at the Kick-off meeting of EURAD-2 WP12 #RAMPEC, a project funded by the European Commission focused on radionuclide mobility under perturbed conditions. The event is taking place at CIEMAT, Madrid, and this was just the first of three days of knowledge exchange and discussion with researchers from across Europe. Together with my colleagues from the Fisicoquímica de Actínidos y Productos de Fisión (FAPF CIEMAT) unit, we shared our progress in this exciting field. It has been an enriching and motivating day, and I’m looking forward to continuing to learn and collaborate in the coming days. We keep pushing forward in the science of geological disposal of radioactive waste!

🄲🄷🄴🄲🄺 🄾🅄🅃 🅃🄷🄸🅂 🅅🄸🄳🄴🄾!🎥 🔬 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗧-𝟯𝟮 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹, a test started during the 𝘽𝙀𝘼𝘾𝙊𝙉 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 and concluded as part of 𝙀𝙐𝙍𝘼𝘿𝟮-𝘼𝙉𝘾𝙃𝙊𝙍𝙎🌍 We have dismantled the CT-32 cell, in which we hydrated for 2.3 years a binary sample (14x14 cm) composed of a compacted block and a mixture of pellets and powder of MX-80 bentonite.
