About us
UL’s Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI) advances fire safety knowledge to address the world’s unresolved fire safety risks and emerging dangers. Through advanced fire science, rigorous research, extensive outreach and education in collaboration with our international network of partners, we impart stakeholders with the information, tools and resources that enable them to make better, more fire-safe decisions that ultimately save lives and property. FSRI is part of UL Research Institutes, a world-leading independent safety science institution. Through objective investigation, we sense emerging risks and work to keep people safer at home, at work, and in the world. As our research evolves to meet new global challenges, we are examining new risks presented by artificial intelligence, renewable energy systems, environmental toxicology, and wildfires.

FSRI’s new fire service technical panel recently held their first meeting in Philadelphia, PA to advise on the research project Fire Dynamics and Firefighting Tactics in Multi-Story Residential Structures. Over the course of the three days, they were onboarded to the project and toured the test structures designed by FSRI. They also reflected on their own experiences responding to fires in these types of structures and shared valuable feedback to guide this project’s experimental setup. Today, we are releasing an updated version of the “Vertical Ventilation and Suppression Tactics in Residential Structures” course to the Fire Safety Academy. With updated visuals, interactive content, bite-sized lessons, and improved course navigation, this course helps firefighters better understand the impact of vertical ventilation and suppression tactics on fire behavior and fire dynamics to reduce firefighters’ safety risks on the fireground. Share this course with your members and consider how the research may be integrated into your department’s SOG/SOPs: https://lnkd.in/eyrG2Qiq #FirefighterTraining #FirefighterSafety #FireDynamics
