Earlier today, at Hasso Plattner Institute NYC/SAP, we had the privilege of listening to an excellent presentation by Hasso Plattner Institute PhD candidate, Konstantin Dobler, who is part of Prof. Gerard de Melo’s research group. Konstantin discussed how #AI is transforming #biomedicine, covering key breakthroughs, risks, and its future impact on #healthcare. After a terrific German Academic International Network (GAIN) conference in San Francisco, we carried the vibrant atmosphere back to the German Consulate General New York last week for a dynamic #postdoc fair, where we were privileged to listen to insights from Annette 'Nina' Gray, New York University and Daniel Mertens, DKFZ German Cancer Research Center/Ulm University about how #ChatGPT and other #LLMs can enhance researchers’ careers. It was an honor to moderate the discussion. The event also featured presentations from prominent German research institutions and alliances, including Hasso Plattner Institute, Berlin University Alliance, University Alliance Ruhr, University of Cologne, Technische Universität Berlin, Ruhr University Bochum, Campus OWL New York, The University of Freiburg, as well German funding organizations, the DFG North America and the DAAD German Academic Exchange Service. A serendipitous Fulbright Association alumni chat with Matthias Haury, Wolfgang Holtkamp and Hakan Tosuner, Executive Director of Fulbright Germany, was one of the highlights of the conference. Thank you, Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Germany Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger and the Deutscher Bundestag representatives for sharing your insights. Catching up with Tobias Stern from Syspons after many years was a wonderful surprise. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my friends and colleagues from US and German institutions whom I have had the opportunity to see almost every year at GAIN for the past decade. 🌏 Incredible first 2 days at the AFS Youth Assembly! Over 700 participants from 80 countries at the UN, with powerful panels on #AI, #Education, #ClimateAction, and more.

Just coming back from a wonderful breakfast event with about 30 participants from many fields at the American Council on Germany, talking about #DataQuality and #AI (of course). The questions we discussed ranged from data preparation ("open" data served as pdf-file) to measuring completeness to the differences of AI and privacy policies in the US and Europe.
