How do we go beyond traditional formats of networking at live events? Research shows that people regularly expect conversations with strangers to go more poorly than they actually do. We fear that the encounter will be awkward and that the other person won’t have a good time, but in actuality most conversations turn out better than expected. As Experience Makers, we have the opportunity to ease the barriers to social interaction at events. What are ways you think we can support more meaningful conversations and connections at live events? Share them with us in the comments below! Director of Sports Relations at Fabric | Founder, Aviv antimicrobial/moisture wicking 🏀 net that offers unprecedented sponsorship opportunities directly on the net to teams, leagues and brands.
POV: My work 💻 productivity has dropped! One of the most painful moments of my 🏀 career happened when I was released from a pro-team after I got injured in practice. The physical injury was nothing compared to the hurt I felt when I walked into the locker room to clear out my locker. A newly signed player had already put his gear in even before I even had the chance to take mine out! It was at that moment that the bubble burst. Pro-sports is indeed a cutthroat business. If you can’t produce, you go home. Later on, I realized many companies work this way, too. They tend to prioritize immediate, short-term results instead of looking at the bigger picture. Fast forward several years. Since the October 7th massacre in #Israel every aspect of life here has been impacted. My family and I, including my kids, know many people who have been murdered and kidnapped by Hamas. My heart is breaking for all the kidnapped civilians. I’m worried sick about all the soldiers, including my oldest daughter in the army. I’m praying for everyone's protection and safe return. The plight of the displaced families, the injured, the broken families, and the dark times facing the entire country keep me up at night. In the midst of this, the economy has taken a huge hit. Most people traveling to Israel now are coming for relief missions, not to talk about sports tech. So instead, I work hard trying to keep up the morale in the house. I try to come up with creative ways to be effective and produce results at my job. I volunteer to help as many kids as possible by running free basketball clinics for displaced families. Now, if history were to repeat itself, Fabric would have kicked me to the curb when my productivity dropped, just like that pro-team did years ago. But fortunately, Fabric is unique in that it’s a “big picture” company. My colleagues have showered me with ongoing support and virtual hugs. This perspective, & kindness, is not something I take for granted, knowing from personal experience that it's not the norm in the business world. What’s even more incredible? While #Fabric is about enhancing the fan experience in top pro sports leagues using cutting edge technology; it's equally dedicated to building a wider community - beyond its own “four walls” - where everyone feels they belong, are supported, and valued. I’m personally so excited about the launch of Fabric’s new HXD community. The HXD Community (https://lnkd.in/dD68qQhV) is about blending the physical and digital spaces where professionals from diverse backgrounds and industries can connect, network, and use technology to enhance real-world human experiences. It's free and it’s filled with tons of talented and inspiring professionals. I invite anyone who wants to connect, brainstorm and share with others in a positive way to take 20 seconds and join the waitlist and become a part of HDX. Thank you, Fabric, for having a winning attitude! I'm grateful and proud to be part of this family.
