Prioritizing student success is a multifaceted effort. To be done successfully, it requires a holistic focus on helping all students flourish both in their education and beyond to post-graduation. New York University, the nation’s largest private research university, is at the forefront of this effort to remove barriers and propel students to the next phase of their educational and career journey. In a recent webinar, Dr. Mark Siegal, NYU's vice provost for undergraduate academic affairs, and Kim Canning, Kaplan's vice president of university partnerships, joined moderator Yvonne Cowser Yancy, Kaplan’s Chief People Officer, for a discussion of how NYU approaches the challenge of advancing the academic success of all of its students. "Much of this work in student success is individual to individual. There are a lot of on-the-ground conversations with faculty or advising moments with students. With a new school year beginning, pre-med students should be setting themselves up to submit their best medical school applications come spring. In that spirit, we're sharing our first-party data on admissions trends. Every year we survey medical school admissions officers throughout the country to get their latest insights, and these are our most notable findings: - A low MCAT score is the biggest deal breaker in the primary application, followed next by lack of clinical experience and then low GPA - Committees want students to look at the application in a holistic manner and show their passion for medicine - “Using a holistic review process, we want to not only see metrics and experiences but also want to get an idea of the student’s personality and drive to be a physician.” - Half of all admissions officers stated that they are in the process of discussing and developing an AI use policy - Some are even using technology to identify AI usage in essays - More than two-thirds believe that what is posted on social media is “fair game” to help make admissions decisions To work with an admissions expert and navigate all of these nuances, we're happy to offer students Medical School Admissions Consulting: https://lnkd.in/g29Fngfs [Admissions officers from accredited medical schools across North America were polled by phone and e-mail between August and December 2023.]
